Introduction to New Material: Students are lead through a guided notes activity and discussion on the proper
way to use thematic maps.
Clarification: Students are provided examples of thematic maps and asked to complete a “think-aloud”
discussing titles, keys (legends), and content of each map in further detail.
Students complete a think, pair, share activity. Two thematic maps are provided (Texas Population Density
and Texas Household Median Income by County). Students are asked to work with a partner to answer a
series of content-based and skills-based questions.
Students complete a thematic map exit quiz containing 3 content-based questions and 3 skills-based
questions.
MODIFICATION
