DETAILED LESSON PLAN

EARTH SCIENCE
SECOND QUARTER

Learning Competency
Explain how the products of weathering are carried away by erosion and deposited elsewhere.

Objectives
1. Define erosion and deposition;
2. Explain how products of weathering are carried away by erosion and deposition;
3. Construct a Cause-Problem-Solution Diagram or Graphic Organizer on the effects of weathering.

Subject Matter
Exogenic Processes: Weathering and Erosion

Materials:
Powerpoint presentation, Laptop, LCD Projector, Hammer, Rock

Procedure
1. Routinary Activity
 Opening Prayer, checking of attendance

2. Review
 Ask the students to briefly explain the process of weathering.

3. Motivation
 Using a hammer, strike a small piece of rock. Based on their observations, ask the
student what happened to small piece of rock.

4. Lesson Proper

 Discuss the two types of weathering, erosion and deposition then ask the students to
give examples.
 Let the students explain how the products of weathering are carried by erosion and
deposited elsewhere.
 Students will have an activity about the possible environmental problems of
weathering and erosion. They will construct a Cause-Problem-Solution Diagram on
weathering and erosion.
5. Generalization
Provide a recap/ summary of the discussion. Emphasize that weather and erosion are two
related processes that can have both positive and adverse effects on our environment.

Application
Based on what they’ve learned, challenge the learners to inform other people on the adverse
effects of weathering and erosion especially those who reside in flood-prone areas. They may also give
some information on risk reduction as well.

Evaluation
The learners will write an essay (50 words) on the topic: “Soil Erosion Awareness and How to Take
Care of the Environment.”

Assignment:
Construct a signage about environmental awareness to be posted in their respective community.
