Planning for anything in our life is important because it organize the things that we will going to

do. For the teachers, planning guide is important especially for the early childhood education,

planning guide help the teacher a lot, it will help her to be confident while she is teaching the

students because she knows that everything is ready, also “It would make the teaching to meet the

goals and direction of the course” (The importance of planning and schedule for teaching, 2003 -

2018), it can make teaching easier and let the teacher reach her goals. As well planning make

everyone in school communicate with each other, it encourage collaboration so they can make the

school better. Planning for the term always help the teacher and the students to be organized and

have a discipline in their teaching and learning. It will managing and organize the time and time

is very important thing for the teachers.

In education, lesson plan is a map for the teacher that show the steps it should follows and the time

for each part, it shows the objectives, lesson’s parts, assessment, and how teacher will going to

teach the lesson. There are three styles of planning for teaching and they are; long term planning

(LTP), medium term planning (MTP), and short term planning (STP). First, the long term planning

is to make a plan for whole semester or one year with grouping the learning goals and active

instruction that help teacher and students to reach their goals by the end of it, and it is to gather

information in one chart with writing more details about each part of the lesson. Second, medium

term planning is create a plan for few weeks or half of the term, and it is to plan in order for one

subject or more which is helpful because it shows most of the themes and topics. While short term

planning is a planning for one week or one single lesson which is allow the teacher to restyle the

lesson content and methods, it is the easiest one to do it but it related to the long term plan and

medium term plan.

There are many differences between the long, medium, and short term plan “the long-term plan is

the scheme of work, the medium-term plan is the unit of work, the short-term plan is the planning

for lessons” (Long-, medium- and short-term planning , 2008). The differences of this three terms

are the duration of time and the nature of the objectives. Short term plan is flexible and teacher

can edit on it anytime if an event happen suddenly or if the weather changed, the activities in the

short term planning could be planned in separate for ages between 3 to 5 years. While medium-

term plan related to the long term plan, it focus on a theme that could be linked with the long term

plan, it have more details about the activities of the lessons. Comparing to the long term plan it

used by the teacher to know their medium term plan which is for half of the term or few weeks,

moreover it gives an overview and cover all the topic and the themes for a full year which is the

whole curriculum that teacher will going to teach it to the students, it shows the occasions and the

events that going to happen in this year with detailed information for each part. All types of term

plans cover the curriculum, medium term plan linked to the long term plan while they are both

should be completed to make the short term plan.

Of course these term plans have beneficial and useful advantages for each of them. The advantages

for short term planning are; teacher could change it if she want to change the activities or the

learning outcomes, teacher can add more activities in the lesson, and it is flexible and easy for the

teacher. On the other hand, the medium term pan advantages are; it describe the activities and the

strategies that support students while working across the outcomes, make the learning meaningful

for the students, focus on the assessment outcomes and the objectives with clear focusing in

specific parts of the progress. While long term plan have more advantages, it provide a way over

the years of key stages that all agreed and shared, it effect the short term plan while linked to the

medium term plan, adjustable and improving according to changing needs if things happen,

evaluated by comments from the students to see if it matches with their needs, provide a forward

vision that cover the curriculum and helping the teacher, and objectives are clear for the teacher in

this term. Overall, the advantages for all the term plans could be if any teacher absent or had

something else to do, it will be clear and guide for the other teacher to teach the students, it will

keep the lesson organized and the teacher will feel comfortable and calm, teacher will know the

steps that she is going to follow in her lesson by using the plan, it will organize teacher’s work

while she is teaching, planning will save teacher’s time, energy and money, let the teacher explore

the skills of the students, and let the teacher know the next step that required.

Abu Dhabi Educational Council (ADEC) are preparing to use the short term plan and long term

plan in their schools. According to ADEC curriculum “Both short-term and long--term plans will

be implemented to ensure that every student in Abu Dhabi will receive quality education in a

healthy and safe environment” (ADEC announces plans to improve private school education in

Abu Dhabi, 2010), they didn’t choose just one term to implement they will implement the short

and long term plan for the schools to make sure that the students will feel comfortable by having

knowledge about their curriculum and what they will going to learn in a year, as well they want to

make sure that the students have a good quality of learning in the schools. In the same way, they

are making the education easier by improving it specifically in private schools.

In conclusion, the three type of the term planning are important for each school even if it have

some differences but all of them had beneficial advantages and could use it in the school, it make

the teaching easier and fixable for the students and the teacher which is good thing. If you want to

be a good, organized, and effective teacher you should have a proper lesson plan, lesson plan will

manage your time and organize classroom and the materials for the activities, it will make teaching

more easily and let you reach your goals and outcomes. “Proper classroom planning will keep you

organized and on track while teaching, thus allowing you to teach more and manage less.” (The

Importance of Planning for the Classroom , n.d.). When you will teach students more and manage

the class and the students less it will save your time and effort and let you feel confident because

you have everything ready in a plan.
