MATRIX OF STRENGTHS OPPORTUNITIES WEAKNESSES THREATS

(SWOT)

For D'Alessio (2008) "this matrix is one of the most interesting because of the intuitive
qualities it demands from analysts, and it is possibly the most important and known
one. It requires a conscientious thought to generate strategies in the four quadrants of
the matrix, these are: strengths and opportunities (SO), weaknesses and opportunities
(WO), strengths and threats (ST), and weaknesses and threats (WT).

The SWOT analysis is used to identify and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of
the organization or program, as well as the opportunities and threats revealed by the
information obtained from the external context.

At first approach it would be:

POSITIVE NEGATIVES

Internal Strengths Weaknesses

External Opportunities Threats

This analysis establishes the strategic diagnosis and its objective consists of
specifying, in a graph or a table, the strengths and weaknesses of the program, with
external threats and opportunities, in coherence with the logic that the strategy must
achieve an adequate adjustment between its internal capacity and its external
competitive position. The important thing is to think about what it is necessary to look
for to identify and measure the strengths and weaknesses, the opportunities and the
threats of the project, key issues that are compiled and analyzed graphically. The
internal strengths and weaknesses are of vital importance, since they allow us to
understand the viability of the project in the concrete environment in which it has to be
carried out. A first step, therefore, is to analyze the environment in which the project is
immersed. It is then necessary to determine the variables or critical success factors
appropriate to use. Once the variables or critical factors are determined, a process of
benchmarking or comparative analyzes with other projects or programs. This process
will allow to identify new opportunities. Finally, a chart is established that includes the
possible strategies to adopt. This graph is carried out from the elaboration of a 2x2
matrix that includes the formulation of the most convenient strategies.
Then we will give a clear example of this matrix applied to the company CinePlane
