Carabao Grass

There are 200 pieces of carabao grass (paspalum conjugatum) that is present in
the tropics and subtropics of both hemisphere. It is regarded as a forage or pasture
grass for herbivores (Stuart, 2015). A species that originally in the forest that can
endure acid soils (“Paspalum conjugatum”, n.d.). In Northern Australia paspalum
conjugatum prefers wetter area and is serious weed of plantation crops, irrigation
channels, roadsides, distribution sites, waste areas and pastures. It has the ability to
secure natural vegetation mainly rainforest gaps and margins, watercourses and
riparian (“Weeds of Australia,” n.d.). The grass regenerates the baldness of the ground
of the forest. It is drought-resistant, remaining its green colour under the hot dry season,
and has used for the turf of all the lawns in the Victoria Botanic, W Cameroon (Bettle,
2000).

P. conjugatum is utilized as a forage for cut-and-carry systems, and is rated as an


imperative natural field grass in coconut ranches. It is occasionally utilized as a yard grass and is
likewise viewed as an important weed in rice and plantation crops. The Iban of Borneo use leaf
decoctions in the treatment of wounds and injuries, and in the Sepik area of Papua New Guinea
pulverized spikelets are used for a similar reason (Speedy, n.d.).
