Questions 25 - 28 Read the letter and answer the questions.

Dear Nadia,
I received your letter this morning and I was shocked to hear that your brother
has run away from home. As you requested, I’ve tried but I’m sorry I don’t have any
news here regarding him. I have asked the whole neighbourhood, everyone that you
knew when you were living here, but nobody has seen him nor heard from him. I
promise that I will continue to keep a look out wherever I go. In fact, I cycled around the
village the whole afternoon looking for him. I have even checked with his old classmates
and friends but they told me he has not kept in touch with them since your family
moved to Petaling Jaya.
Kadir has always been very obedient. It is hard to believe that he would do
something like this. It is strange that he just went off when there are no problems at
home. You may be right that his new friends have something to do with it.
I know it is useless to tell you not to worry. Please call me as soon as Kadir is
home. Do take care of yourself and let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Sincerely,
Amiza

It was that time in Jamal’s life. Marriage time. Jamal had left the whole rigmarole

of choosing a wife to his mother and sisters. His mother finally found a suitable choice,
pretty, well-educated and the scion of a family that his mother would not be ashamed to
introduce as in-laws. Jamal also took an instant liking to his future bride. She looked
demure and sweet, hands folded neatly on her lap the day Jamal went to ‘view’ her. She
was not too short which was a no-no for Jamal and she had langsat-yellow skin. A
typical Malay beauty. Jamal gave her a 9/10 rating and pronounced satisfaction on his
mother’s choice. Arrangements then commenced and a date was set. It was to be in
three months’ time.
“Why so long, Cik?” queried Jamal. He had already spent a few sleepless nights thinking
about his bride.
“Because, dear son,” explained his mother, “there’re the invitations, the catering, the
bridal chamber and the bunga telur to be attended to.” Well, he understood about the
invitations, the catering, the bridal chamber (blush), yes, definitely, but the bunga telur?
What was that? He had not anticipated this bunga telur thing. Jamal needed
clarifications on the bunga telur issue. A bunga telur, his sister explained, is the thing, in
fact the given thing, hosts presented to guests on the latter’s leave. They were usually
hard-boiled eggs. Well, that’s not really a problem, Jamal thought. What was wrong with
that? One could eat the eggs after the feast.
