HYDROLOGIC

CYCLE
Water is a transparent, tasteless, odorless, and nearly colorless chemical
substance that is the main constituent of Earth's streams, lakes, and oceans, and the fluids of
most living organisms. Its chemical formula is H2O, meaning that each of
its molecules contains one oxygen and two hydrogen atoms that are connected by covalent
bonds.
Many of us think water will always be there for us when we want it. Without
water, living things will die. We know how important water is to human life and also, because
of agriculture, how important it is to plant life. But what about the earth in general? How
important is water to the ecological balance of the earth? What role does it play and what
would happen if we were to lose it or it didn't exist? There are already parts of the world
where we can see how life would change, if there were no water. We can also see it somewhat
from satellite photos of Mars, the moon, and other "dead" space bodies. And we can
extrapolate from the properties of water, itself, and what we know of its effect on life.
Water has a circulation
known as the hydrologic cycle.
Hydrologic cycle is how the earth’
water recycle it self. The cycle includes
precipitation, evaporation,
condensation, and transpiration.
The hydrologic cycle begins
with the evaporation of water from the
surface of the ocean, lake, river and the
others. As moist air is lifted, it cools and
water vapor condenses to form clouds.
Moisture is transported around the
globe until it returns to the surface
as precipitation. Once the water reaches the ground, one of two processes may occur; some of
the water may evaporate back into the atmosphere or the water may penetrate the surface and
become groundwater. Groundwater either seeps its way to into the oceans, rivers, and
streams, or is released back into the atmosphere through transpiration. The balance of water
that remains on the earth's surface is runoff, which empties into lakes, rivers and streams and
is carried back to the oceans, where the cycle begins again.
Human can interfere with the hydrologic cycle in various ways that can cause a
disaster. These include deforestation, urbanization, building dams, over abstraction, and so
on.

Explanation Text: About How The Water Cycle Works

Solar energy evaporates exposed water from seas, lakes, rivers, and wet soil; the majority of
this evaporation takes place over the seas. Water is also released into the atmosphere by the
plants through photosynthesis. During this process, known as evapotranspiration, water
vapour rises into the atmosphere.

Clouds form when air becomes saturated with water vapour. The two major types of cloud
formation are stratified or layered grey clouds called stratus and billowing white or dark grey
cloud called cumulus clouds.

Precipitation as rain, or hail ensures that water returns to Earth’s surface in a fresh form.
Some of this rain, however, falls into the seas and is not accessible to humans. When rain
falls, it either washes down hill slopes or seeps underground; when snow and hail melts, this
water may also sink into the ground.

Rain fall also replenishes river water supplies, as does underground water. Snow fall may
consolidate into glaciers and ice sheets which, when they melt, release their water into the
ground, into stream or into the seas.

The water cycle

The water cycle is also known as the hydrological cycle. There is the same amount of water on the
Earth now as there was when the Earth began. The water cycle is how the earth's water recycles it
self. The cycle includes precipitation, evaporation, condensation, and transpiration. Earth's water
keeps changing from liquid water to vapour and then back again. This cycle happens because of the
sun's heat and gravity.

How does the Water Cycle work?

1. First of all, water molecules from lakes, rivers, streams, reservoirs, and the sea get heated up by
the sun and then turn into vapour that rises into the air.

2. Next, these water molecules form into clouds, this is because a process called condensation
occurs.

3. When the air and the water cool, they form drops of water which then fall to the earth as rain. If
they are frozen, they become snow or sleet.

4. Once the water reaches the ground, it can flow across the land until it reaches rivers, lakes,
streams, or the sea. It can also sink into the ground and flow because of gravity through gaps in rock,
gravel and sand. Because of this, it reaches these bodies of water too.

5. Now the cycle begins again, when water is evaporated once more.

Why is water important?

Many of us think water will always be therefor us when we want it. Without water, livingthings would
die. You will die if you go withoutwater for more than a week. Plants will diewithout water and that
would kill all of theanimals that eat the plants.
