LITERACY focus standard MATH focus standard

CCSS: RL1.5 Students will explain the
difference between books that tell stories
and books that give information.
Vocabulary: fiction, non-fiction, text features
Strategy: students will identify the features of
fiction and non-fiction texts.
This week’s focus texts are:
Spiders by Gail Gibbons
Spinning Spiders by Melvin Berger
CCSS: Operations and Algebraic Thinking
1.OA.3 Apply properties of operations as
strategies to add and subtract.
Example: If 8 + 3 = 11 is known,
then 3 + 8 = 11 is also known.
(Commutative property of addition.)
The order of addends does not change the sum.

Practice Makes Progress:
 Remember yellow folders every day.
 Read for 15 minutes each night and fill-in
star chart in yellow folder (with date written
in a star).
 Practice reading and writing phonics focus
words and high frequency words (listed on
green paper).
 There are two optional homework pages. One
is more independent, and the reading passage
may need your support to complete.

and return the envelope. Keep report card. 
 Fall Family Festival is Friday, 10/26 (5-8 pm).
