EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

he business of MFC Balloons and Party Needs started

T in 2014 when its proprietor, Mrs. Melendy F.

Canayong accidentally had an idea from a friend to
start this kind of business in Alang-alang, Leyte which was inspired
by the strong, blessed and thankful people after ST Yolanda. It is
primarily established to cater the needs of people through the
services it provides such as decorating or hosting parties likewise
selling party items. Since then, its operation had expanded by
opening a new branch in Fatima Village, Marasbaras, Tacloban City
on the same year. Currently, MFC Balloons and Party Needs focuses
its operations more here in Leyte area. It has a good market because
of the reputation it has built. It has been growing and developing
through the years with its hands-on owner.
Mrs. Canayong has a plan to acquire additional vehicle for more
efficient flow of her business especially when it has lots of bookings
during the day. There are risks and opportunities for her business
however, it is important for a businessman to keep in his mind that
he must adapt to changes and make his business outshine others.
We believe that in order for this kind business to be on the long
run it must provide a satisfactory performance to its customers.
Decorating or hosting events must be done simultaneously without
sacrificing the trust of its clients. Quality service at an affordable
price would make the business gain recurring customers. Industry
structure might change over time. The buying and selling power
may fluctuate. New competitors might arise. It is important for
businessmen to keep in their mind that one must adapt to change and
make their business outshine others. Let your satisfied customer be
your endorser in gaining more market than what you have expected.

A. MFC Merchandise: Balloons and Party Needs - The Breakthrough
MFC Balloons and Party needs started in 2014,
when Mr. and Mrs. Canayong received a call from a
friend if they can order some balloons since they
were in Cebu at that time. Taking the opportunity of
that time when almost all businesses in Tacloban
were in hiatus, they have conceived the idea of
opening a balloon and party need shop in thier
hometown in Alangalang Leyte. It primarily
operates on receiving orders from customers for
birthday parties. On the same year, it opened its first branch in Marasbaras Tacloban City.
Since then, it expanded its operation by extending the product and service that they offer.
MFC Balloons and Party Needs have a satisfying review on social media and is
recommended by many people including the Office of the Mayor of Tacloban City. They were
also the speakers of the 24th Foundation Anniversary and Intramurals Celebration -Opening of
the Entrep. Mall in Saint Paul School of Professional Studies.
They plan on extending their products and services that they offer. They also have plans in
undertaking major acquisitions that will help them improve the quality of their work. MFC
Balloons and Party needs stable and they wish to continue their business without compromising
the trust of their customers.

B. Industry Growth
The special events industry has grown enormously in the past decade. According to
recent research conducted by Dr. Joe Goldblatt, CSEP (Certified Special Events Professional),
spending for special events worldwide is $500 billion annually. "Suffice it to say, the
marketplace is large enough to support and sustain your endeavour," says Goldblatt. "
The demand for this kind of service is expected to grow continuously. Technology
related to communication has improved considerably in recent decades, but not in a way that
would replace the need for occasional events, seminars, or conventions designed to be attended
in person.
The target markets are middle to upper-middle class families, couples, individuals, or
private and public organizations. We chose these groups because they are most able to afford
this kind of service and have the least amount of time to spare for event planning in general.
The fast pace of the world we live in leaves little time for extra things we would like to do, like
plan events, parties, and social get-togethers. Occasions fills the need by being available to take
on the burden of planning so that people can spend time on more important things, like family
and friends. The demand for this service can only increase considering the rise in incomes,
population, and need for interpersonal relations in the workplace.

A. ENGAGEMENT OBJECTIVES

This engagement is conducted for the pursuit of the following objectives:

 To assess the previous and current performance of MFC Balloons and Party Needs and
evaluate prospects for the industry;
 To identify weaknesses in the internal and external environment of the entity; and
 To issue recommendations for the improvement of the overall value of the company.

B. SCOPE LIMITATION

The team considered obtaining financial information from the client to better assess
the overall financial health of the entity. They disclosed to us how they are being taxed by the
government. We were also able to have a close look on their Tax Forms and their Statement
of Cash flows.

C. MODELS USED

The engagement team utilized various tools and models in conducting the
engagement. Specifically, the Five Forces Model, SWOT Analysis, and the Balanced
Scorecard – inspired approach were used.

The Five Forces Model of analysis was developed by Michael Porter to analyze the
competitive environment in which a product or company works.it assesses five factors
namely: threat of entry, supplier power, buyer power, competitive rivalry, and threat of
substitutes. It is a framework for understanding the competitive forces at work in an industry,
and which drive the way economic value is divided among industry actors.

And lastly, SWOT Analysis is a situation analysis in which internal strengths and
weaknesses of an organization, and external opportunities and threats faced by it are closely
examined to chart a strategy. SWOT stands for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and
threats.

B. RECOMMENDATIONS
On the 3rd Day of August 2018, we went to our clients’ business place hoping that we
would get the chance to meet them. But unfortunately, busy as expected for them to be, they
weren’t around during that time due to business matters so we only got the chance to talk
with the person they put in-charge during that day. Well, despite missing the chance to meet
them, hardship was still not the case for us since they have immediately responded by the
time we contacted them, and that settled everything in relation to our proposed engagement
with them. And that is one thing we have clearly observed and noticed, they are very much
accommodating and can easily get along with people which in our opinion is considered as an
advantage for them in dealing with their clients/customers.
After the said agreement and approval, we finally got the chance to meet them.
Gladly, they were very much accommodating in catering us with the necessary information
needed for this engagement.

Factual Findings Recommendations

D. BUSINESS PROPOSAL
a.) Major Capital Acquisition
The said entity encounters great difficulties in their operation due to unavailability
of transportation needed to carry all the necessary things needed for particular
events. To avoid any delays in relation to this that might affect customer
satisfaction and for the purpose of improving company operation, we recommend
the acquisition of the following:

Name: Mitsubishi L300 Deluxe Cab Chassis

Body Type: Commercial Vehicle
Price: ₱ 620,000
Transmission Type: Manual

b.) Seminars & Workshops

Employees should be well equipped and trained with the necessary skills and
knowledge needed to meet the entity’s goals and employee’s satisfaction.
Through this they are able to:

1. Sharpen their skills: Learn new ideas and approaches to make you more
effective and efficient at work.
2. Learn in a new space: exposure to different kinds of environments enables
them to uncover new approaches that will grow the business.
3. Explore new ways of working: Get hands-on information that is specific to
the business, directly from the experts. A well run conference will help them
curate new ideas to help improve their approach. Even though there is lot
information on the web, workshops and seminars will cut through the clutter
to deliver the best content specific to ones’ industry.
4. Get greater focus: The flip side of learning new things is relearning classic
techniques. Workshops create opportunities for greater focus and reflection
that could help you take your business to the next level.
5. Invest in your people: Investing for the improvement of your employees
skills is an investment to your company.

16

the entity from the last application of policies. It is also a way to see the improvements and
after-effect of the suggested recommendations.
