A Unified Control and Power Management Sche me

For PV-Battery-Based Hybrid Micro grids for

Both Grid -Connected and Islanded Modes
Abstract:
This paper presents Batt ery storage is usually employed in Photovoltai c (PV) system to
mitigate the power fluctuations due to the characteristics of PV panels and solar irradiance.
Control schemes for PV-battery systems must be able to stabilize the bus volta ges as well as to
control the power flows flexibly. It comprehensive control and power man agement system
(CAPMS) for PV-battery-based hybrid micro grids with both AC and DC bus es, for both grid-
connected and islanded modes .
Existing method:
The existing method de scribes this method aims at solving load sh aring in system
configurations with multiple PV and battery units. It introduces a similar method which only
aims at single phase low volta ge islanded micro grids. None of the aforementioned methods
considers the grid-connected s ituation, where there is power exchange bet ween the hybrid
system and the utility grid. It introduces a supervisory control system b ased on 24-hour
forecasted data for a grid-conn ected wind- PV-battery system. The topology of the studied
system, where PV and battery bank are interfaced with the grid using decentra lized inverters, is
different from the system config uration of this study.
Proposed method:
The proposed method proposes a control and power management syste m (CAPMS) for
PV-battery systems, which is a centralized control system that flexibly and eff ectively controls
power flows among the power s ources, loads, and utility grid. The proposed me thod succeeds in
regulating the voltage on both DC and AC buses, transferring between grid-connected and
islanded operating modes smo othly, and balancing power quickly in the h ybrid PV-battery
system.

Drawbacks of existing met hod:
1. This method aims at solving l oad sharing in system configurations with multiple PV
and battery units.
Advantages of proposed m ethod:
1. Transferring between gri d-connected and islanded operating modes smo othly,
and balancing power quickly in the hybrid PV-battery system.
Applications:
