What’s so great about Edinburgh Castle?

Edinburgh Castle has little to offer to tourists, whether you

are in Edinburgh for a long break or for a shorter holiday.
The Castle is an impressive fortress waiting to be explored,
a hub of history, and it has splendid views of Edinburgh.

The Castle is also an ideal place for family days about.

Children love to explore every inch of this massive fortress
and ride the cannons in the Middle and Upper Ward.

The panorama from the Castle gives visitors a chance to appreciate Edinburgh’s geological
variety: hills, sea and extinct volcanoes as well as its man-made skyline.

Hi Mandy.

I’m only emailing you now because I wasn’t home the whole weekend. My parents
decided to take some time off and we went to Scotland. It was fabulous. Oh! The
weather there is as wet as it is here in York.
We travelled to a village near Edinburgh for the weekend, mum, dad and I in our new
car. It’s silver and very comfortable. We stayed at my aunt’s house because the hotels
are very expensive. She lives in a very nice cottage surrounded by trees and flowers.
Country life is really calm and healthy. The only thing that I didn’t like about my stay
was having to get along with my cousin Randy. I don’t like him because he wears

black all the time and listens to that awful heavy metal music. He spends all his time

in his room and doesn’t talk to anybody. He’s also into tattoos and has one on each of

his arms.

On Saturday morning, we went to visit Edinburgh Castle, which is on top of an extinct

volcano. We had lunch in a typical little restaurant and ate Haggis, which is a
traditional Scottish dish. In the afternoon we went shopping on the Royal Mile and
Victoria Street and I bought presents for everyone.
On Sunday, dad wanted to drive up to the Highlands but mum was too tired. She
stayed at home and dad and I drove up. We went all the way to Loch Ness, and did
a cruise on the lake, to try and see the famous Loch Ness monster. It was great fun,
but we didn’t see it.
We drove back late last night. I’m still tired, but it was great. I loved going to Scotland!

Bye. See you at school tomorrow.
