the ultimate was created when , in 1968, Joel Silver introduced his idea of

ultimate frisbee to tue columbia high school student council but until the next
year the idea was approve ant the first game was played between tow groups of
students. They played in a field of 40 yards wide an 120 yasrd long , wich is the
actual ultimate field mesures. although almost any size will work as long as both
side of the field are eguals. each end zone is 25 yards deep and the playing area
is 70 yards. in that time they didn't know very well the rule of the games because
it was invented recently , so Joel invent some easys rules for that time:
Initiate Play Each point begins with both teams lining up on the front of their
respective endzone line. The defense throws the disc to the offense. A regulation
game has seven players per team.
Scoring Each time the offense completes a pass in the defenses endzone, the
offense scores a point. Play is initiated after each score.
Movement of the Disc The disc may be advanced in any direction by completing a
pass to a teammate. Players may not run with the disc. The person with the disc has
ten seconds to throw the disc. The defender guarding the thrower counts out the
stall count.
Change of possession When a pass in not completed the defense immediately takes
possession of the disc and becomes the offense.
Substitutions Players not in the game may replace players in the game after a
score and during an injury timeout.
Non-contact No physical contact is allowed between players. Picks and screens are
also prohibited. A foul occurs when contact is made.
Fouls When a player initiates contact on another player a foul occurs. When a
foul disrupts possession, the play resumes as if the possession was retained. If
the player committing the foul disagrees with the foul call, the play is redone.
Self-Refereeing Players are responsible for their own foul and line calls.
Players resolve their own disputes.
Spirit of the Game Ultimate stresses sportsmanship and fair play. Competitive
play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence
to the rules, and the basic joy of play.
in the 1968 the disc was really heavy and it have an irregular shape bit when the
ultimate get independent the USA ultimate change that disc whit an other, this new
this is more lightweight and it have a perfec circle shape but when the ulrimate
get famous the other countries wanet to enjoy it but whit other tipe of dics, in
that time there was a discution betuen de USA ultimate and the DSWG ,or the Dics
Standar Working Group, for the shapes and the propotions of the dics but and bouth
get into a conclution , tome make a nuw dics light, aerodynamic and with curved
edges so that it can be thrown to taste as the other countries complained because
some people could not throw the disc properly.
also in that time they dosent have a composition of the time , they onley play to
score but now we have some rules for the players:
Handlers: They are the players at the back of the field who are consistently
passing the Frisbee to other team mate.
Cutters: They are the players making the runs trying to get open to receive the
Disc.
Deep-Deep: They are the players defending against long throws.
Short Deeps/Mids: They are the players preventing under cuts.
so the ultimate is sport very recently created from an idea of a high school
teacher with a poor distribution and bad planning but it became one of the most
famous sports in the world.
