Session Guide
Title Teaching Strategies and Thinking Skills
Time Allotment 180 minutes
Key Understanding to be Teaching Strategies – as the structure, system, methods,
Developed techniques, process that a teacher uses during instruction.
Creative Thinking Skills – as thinking skills that involve exploring
ideas, generating possibilities and looking for many right answers
rather than just one.
Critical Thinking Skills – as high level thinking skills such as
analysis, evaluation, interpretation, or synthesis of information
and application of creative thought to form an argument, solve a
problem or reach a conclusion.
Higher-Order Thinking Skills – as complex thinking processes
which include analysis, evaluation, synthesis, reflection and
creativity.
Objectives Identify different learning strategies suited for 21st century
learners.
Construct questions of different levels to develop learners’
different thinking skills.
Materials Laptop, Projector, Projector Screen, Manila Paper, Meta Strips,
Bond Papers, Ball Pens, Markers, Tapes
Priming Short Video Presentation with a short reflection after viewing

Activity Participants will be grouped into four (4) groups. The groups will
be given the same activity. They will answer the question: “List
down the different teaching strategies that you employ in your
classroom instruction.” Reporting will follow after all the groups
are done.
Analysis Facilitator will highlight the different strategies the participants
had given. Participants will brain-storm how each strategy will be
integrated in the art of questioning to develop the different
thinking skills.
Abstraction The facilitator will discuss the following:
1. Different Teaching Strategies
2. Types of Thinking Skills
3. Levels of Questions
Application Each group will be given a topic/lesson. They will identify the
appropriate teaching strategies to be used to achieve each
lesson’s objectives. They will formulate evaluation of the
topic/lesson following the level of questions which require the
employment of different types of thinking skills. Each group will
be given time to time for their presentation and for critiquing.
Closure Each participant will make a Daily Lesson Plan integrating
teaching strategies and types thinking skills.
This will serve as their output.
