Monday, October 29
Job 9:2 I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?
O God My Father:
I deserve to be barred from heaven forever, cut off from any hope of mercy
eternally. I deserve to fall under the curse of the same law I have broken, and be
banished from the blessings of the gospel of grace I refused so long. I sinned
against so much mercy and light, I am no more worthy to be called thy son. I am utterly
unworthy of any favors promised in your word, yet you have given me
encouragement to hope for them!
Job 9:3 If you contend with us for our transgressions, we are not able to answer you, O
Lord, nor do we make excuse for one of a thousand.
† Psa. 130:3-4,7 If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall
stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. Let Israel hope in the
LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.
O Father, take away the guilt of my sins by the atonement of your Son!
Subdue the power of my sin by your Spirit! Deliver me from the natural darkness
of my own mind, from the corruption of my heart, and from the perverse
tendencies of my evil propensities and passions. Free me from the temptations I
am exposed to, and from the daily snares that follow me.
I am in constant danger while in this life, so let the watchful eye of God be
on me for my defense. Deliver me from your wrath, and from eternal punishment
in hell due for my sins. Save me from the power of my enemies in this world, and
from all painful consequences I justly exposed myself to by sinning against you.
Until I feel wounded for my own sins, really wounded, I will never be
prepared to bring the Spirit’s mercies to others. Give me grace to seek Jesus’
face, because I ask it in his name and for his sake. Amen.

TUESDAY—FOCUS ON CHRIST’S LIFE

Tuesday, October 30
Mark 16:7 But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into
Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.
O Glorious God:
There are certain appointed places you meet your disciples, and you always
keep your appointments.
• You promised to meet me at the mercy-seat—thank you for saving
my soul
• You promised to meet me in public worship—thank you for my
church and its pastors
• You promised to meet me in the ordinances—thank you for the
opportunity to share baptisms and the Lord’s Supper with my family
so often
• You promised to meet me in your word—thank you for my
disciplers, and this daily reading schedule
• You promised to meet me in prayer—thank you for this prayer guide
If I stay away from those meeting places, it is my own fault I do not feel your
presence. Help me place you first in fellowship, because You go before me. Your heart
is already with your people. Your delight is in what I do to respond to your Eternal
Purpose. You are never slow to meet as I arrive at the place you want me.
But you only reveal yourself to those who follow you to seek you, because
“There shall ye see him.” What a sight for sore eyes! When I see Jesus I am filled with
joy and peace, because you do everything according to your promises (as he said unto
you). Help me really catch those last five words, and be assured you will forever do
what you have promised to do in Jesus’ holy name. Amen!
FRIDAY— CORPORATE PRAYER MINISTRY
Chronological Bible Reading: Luke 22; John 13
Friday, November 2
Lam. 3:22-23 It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his
compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Oh Almighty God:
We beg you to look on the desires of our hearts for our children. Stretch out
the right hand of your majesty to be their defense against the enemy. Our own evil
deeds deserve punishment, but by the comfort of your grace they are forgiven. We
are so grateful for that! And we want to share it with our HarvestKids, youth,
college, young couples and adults.
Look on us all mercifully as your people, because by your great goodness we
can be led by our pastors, and prevented and preserved from falling into
temptation. Guard us and our children both in body and soul today.
Give us grace in presenting the gospel to children. In your tender love you
sent your Son to take our flesh on himself, and so suffer death on the cross as our
substitute and sacrifice. He did not go up into joy until he first suffered pain in our
place; it is as if he would not have heaven without us! Help us lead others to this
great offer of salvation in the glorious good news. Grant that as we walk in the way
of the cross this week we can find the lane of life and the path of peace.
Rom. 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be
compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
Jesus gave his back to the smiters, and hid not his face from shame on our
behalf. Grant us grace to join him, choose inconvenience, and face joyfully any
suffering in your mission, in full assurance of the glory that will be revealed.
1 Pet. 4:13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when
his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
WEDNESDAY—REVIVAL PRAYING
Chronological Bible Reading: Matthew 23; Luke 20
Wednesday, October 31
Isa. 59:8 The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they
have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace.
Heavenly Father!
Have I found the way of peace? Then make me earnest in telling others about
it. Too many believers have become deaf mutes. They are deaf to the spiritual cries
of others, and silent about giving either encouragement instruction or on how to
find God.
“Which way to the cross?” Why do I not tell them? I know so much more
than I say. Do I not hear their cry? It may be masked as a moan for something
material, but I know what they really need—the gospel!
They are lost in finding it. Too often I am lost to give it. I am content to
occupy a seat on Sunday, but do not go out to share what I have found there. If I
know the way I should show the way as I go the way and,
2 Tim. 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort
with all longsuffering and doctrine.
God, make me ready to point the way to heaven to everyone, whether they
ask to know it or not! Maybe my description of the pathway will awaken their desire
to get in, and get un-lost. We sometimes introduce people to our friends just
because they are standing there. So Jesus, I want to be an effective influence in
introducing others to you. If I show them the way to the cross, then maybe they
will be encouraged to walk in it.
“Turn right and keep going straight.” Only one turn is needed when you
come to the cross, but it must be a complete turning. Then, whether I reach Canaan
or not, I will not go back to Egypt, to the way it used to be. I will die facing God
and his grace, because ultimately, that is true revival! Amen.
SATURDAY—IN THE PSALMS

Saturday, November 3
Psa. 5:11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy,
because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.
Lead Me, O Lord:
Psa. 5:8 Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies;…
Like a child is led by his father, or a blind man helped by his friend.
Psa. 5:8 … make thy way straight before my face.
Make THY way Lord, not MY way, straight. Help me learn to give up my own
way, and desire to walk in your way. Guide me into righteousness because of my
enemies, and teach me to beware of the wicked. There are many “human anteaters”
who, with their long tongues covered with sticky words, entice and entrap so many.
Lord, lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil because of them!
Joy is my privilege as a believer. Because I love you Lord, therefore I delight in
you. I feast every day when I feed on you. You give me music in the house, music in
the heart, and music yet for heaven. You are my strength and my song because you
have become my salvation.
Psa. 6:2 Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my
bones are vexed.
I have sorrow, humiliation, and hatred of my sin. Let those be the three marks
of a contrite spirit before you. Do not withhold your rebuke, for then I lose a blessing
in disguise. I need the Spirit’s conviction, not to be condemned, but in order to be
sanctified. Sweeten your chastisements with the knowledge they are not administered
in anger but in love. I know my sins too well to think of my own merit, or appeal
to anything but your grace. And so I make my appeal this day.
Psa. 6:4 Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies’ sake.
For it is in Jesus’ name I make this plea. Amen.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Baptists tend to ridicule liturgical churches that use "prepared prayers" because
they lack spontaneity. But for many Baptists, their prayers are so predictable they are
no more spontaneous than written-out prayers. The result is we end up praying the
same things over and over.
This daily Prayer Diary will prompt you on a wide range of prayer requests you
might not normally think of, while forcing you to articulate a deeper devotion to God.
We have included a daily Bible reading schedule. This plan will take you through the
Bible chronologically in a year.
Do not read ahead and do not try to catch up. Use each day as it comes. Then
you can know that on any given day, dozens of other people are lifting their hearts in
the same mind to God. Pray what is written, but use what is prayed as a springboard
for your own relationship with God. You learn to pray by praying.

Secret prayer is the secret of prayer, the soul of prayer, the seal of prayer, the
strength of prayer. If you do not pray alone you do not pray at all. Our Lord Jesus
Christ would go nowhere till He had prayed. He would attempt nothing till He had
prayed.
“Oh,” says one, “I live in the spirit of prayer, and therefore I do not need times
and seasons for prayer.” And do you think that Christ did not live in the spirit of
prayer? Yet He had to have his special time and place to pray. Do not fall under the
injurious notion that because your spirit cries to God in prayer all day long, therefore
there must not be some season for more immediately coming into God’s presence. If
you imagine this, I am afraid that it will prove a snare to your feet. The Lord Jesus
Christ, who knew better than you do that the main thing is the spirit of prayer rather
than the act of prayer, yet Himself retired into desert places to maintain the act and
exercise of prayer. Be spiritual. Be baptized into the spirit of prayer. But do not be
deceived by the enemy, who can steal a spirit away while we dream that we only
spiritualize it. We had better preserve the very bones of prayer—the posture, the
time, place—rather than let it all ooze away into an impalpable mental condition.
God keep us prayerful. He will do so if He makes us like His dear Son.
