n RECOVERY & REBUILDING
Among Afghans there is a mix of optimism and
pessimism as to whether genuine improvements can
be made. Our partners, working with village elders,
have already been able to help hundred of families in
Kabul and Kandahar and have invitations to serve in
other regions. Well-drilling, stand-pipes and latrines
make a huge difference to villages in extremely
remote areas. This is a project that saves lives.
In rural area, “Kareez” are used. These are
man-made tunnels which collect ground water from
mountain slopes and channel it to villages below to
aid irrigation, hygiene and drinking-supplies.
At a cost of £50/$80 per family, clean water is
provided to those in direst need.

PROJECT
n EDUCATION
The disabled are among those most seriously
affected by the country's poor systems. Without
tailored education, it is virtually impossible to
find paid work.
£30/$45 a month helps our partners run a centre
catering to both male and female deaf and mute
students ranging from 8 to 40 years old. They are
taught sign language along with reading, writing
and maths. Students receive vocational training as
well as support in looking for employment.
£30/$45 a month will also help students at a
school for the blind. Children as young as four
attend in an effort to help them one day to fit in to
regular schools.
£45/$70 will pay for one girl to be placed in a
school for an entire academic year. Nine out of
ten girls grow up with out education.
n AGRICULTURE
Deforestation is a serious problem and partly
responsible for the crippling years of drought.
Forests help regulate ground water levels but years
of war have destroyed entire forests. Our partners
provide fruit trees for a nominal amount.
They are sources of both food and income.
£15/$23 will buy ten fruit trees.
£200/$300 provides a family with everything
they need to begin bee-keeping. Honey is highly
prized in the country – and extremely expensive.
