The first hints that a moon could be orbiting this planet came
from Kepler observations. There were anomalies that couldn’t
be easily explained away. Two astronomers from Columbia
University obtained 40 hours of telescope time on Hubble and
were able to obtain four times better precision on the existing What You See
data. It also showed that the transit started 1.25 hours earlier In This Optical

Obviously I'm not a scientist, but a gas giant three times
the size of Jupiter? As far as I've read, Jupiter is so big
that it's a bordeline failed star. It's so big that the center of
rotation of our solar system is actually not within the sun.
If it were to be any bigger, the core gravity would be so
immens it would start to fuse the cores of the elements
inside and thus become a star, creating a dual-star
planetary system. In this way, how could a planet get any
bigger than Jupiter?

The things you read were somewhat....
exaggerated. The smallest brown dwarfs - not
even true stars, as they never achieve proton-
proton fusion in their cores, only ever developing
deuterium fusion - are 13 times as massive as
Jupiter.

It's not size alone that determines whether or nor
fusion occurs. Not only does it need to be huge, it
also need the correct pressures, density,
temperature and chemical makeup to start fusing
hydrogen atoms into helium.

i think it is supposed to be gaseous, that's at least
what i understood... the definition of moon is
something like "planetary object orbiting another
planet" .. isnt it?
