RECOMMISSIONING CHECKLIST
ACW PUMPS

MOTOR NO-LOAD TRIAL CHECKS:

1. Motor and its surrounding area are clean.

2. Illumination in the plant area is adequate.

3. Motor is accessible and its surrounding area is safe and satisfactory for plant operation.

4. Motor is fitted and satisfactorily mounted with foundation bolts tight.

5. Motor is decoupled and free to rotate.

6. Sufficient gap is maintained between the coupling halves.

7. All bolted joints and cover plates on the stator frame are provided with gasket and properly
tightened.

8. Motor bearing oil levels are OK.

9. Breaker is cleared and tested.

10. Terminal box is clean, dry and tightened properly.

11. Space heater connections are complete, secure and tight.

12. Power cable and earthling connections are complete, secure and tight.

13. Electrical protections are kept in service.

14. Instrumentation on the motor is complete; bearing temperature indication is available at local
and UCB.
15. EPB checked by keeping breaker in test position.
16. Necessary start permissives and trips are bypassed.
17. Breaker control switch is UCB is released from lock position.

CHECKPOINTS FOR PUMP LOAD TRIAL

1. Power and control supply extended for motor


2. Take Clearances for Load trial..
3. Start motor from control panel & record starting date / time
4. Check for any abnormality (Abnormal sound, seal leakage, bearing temp. etc.) & fill the
following table
5. Run drive for 30 Min. if everything is found normal
6. Check for any leakages
7. Record Pump load trial completion, DATE/TIME.

8. Carry out protection & interlock checking of drive / system.

9. Take vibration readings.

CEP RECOMMISSIONING

All PTWs are returned

MOTOR NO-LOAD TRIAL CHECKS:


1. Motor and its surrounding area are clean.

2. Illumination in the plant area is adequate.

3. Motor is accessible and its surrounding area is safe and satisfactory for plant operation.

4. Motor is fitted and satisfactorily mounted with foundation bolts tight.

5. Motor is decoupled and free to rotate.

6. Sufficient gap is maintained between the coupling halves.

7. All bolted joints and cover plates on the stator frame are provided with gasket and properly
tightened.

8. Motor bearing oil levels are OK.

9. Breaker is cleared and tested.

10. Terminal box is clean, dry and tightened properly.

11. Space heater connections are complete, secure and tight.

12. Power cable and earthling connections are complete, secure and tight.

13. Electrical protections are kept in service.


14. Instrumentation on the motor is complete; bearing temperature indication is available at
local and UCB.
15. Motor thrust bearing cooling water connections are given and lines charged; Equipment
Cooling Water (ECW ) pump is kept in service. Observe the water flow in return line
through view glass.

16. EPB checked by keeping breaker in test position.

ii) Inhibition to close when pump is not running.

1. Instrument air is charged in Turbine side & pressure is ok

2. Pump recirculation valve operation checked & isolating valves open

3. GSC minimum recirculation valve operation checked & isolating valves open.

4. Hotwell level control valve (at least one) and their bypass MOV operation checked & isolating
valves open

5. De-aerator level control valve operation checked & isolating valves open.

6. LPHs inlet / outlet and bypass valves operation & interlock checked & isolating valves kept
open.

7. Supply is available for the solenoid operated vent valves at CEP discharge and main
condensate line, before LP bypass attemperation station.

Line up and hotwell filling

1. Line-up make-up water system for hotwell make-up and CEP seal water.

2. Hotwell level transmitters / switches are charged and UCB indication is available

3. Hotwell drains are closed

4. Fill hotwell up to normal level and keep hotwell level control valve in auto.

CEP Charging

1. The pump, suction strainer, valves, NRV and condensate system are boxed up and ready for
charging (The sections which are not available should be properly isolated).

2. Ensure that CEP suction strainer is cleaned and boxed up. Close the suction strainer drain
valve, if open.

3. Provide gland seal water and ensure that the pressure is adequate (> 2 ksc).

4. Open the pump suction side vent valve to condenser (equalizing valve).

5. Isolating valves of pump discharge vent valve are open

6. Gradually open the suction valve. After opening the valve fully, ensure that the corresponding
permissive appears in UCB (while opening, care should be taken to avoid over-traveling of the
butterfly valve).
7. All local and remote instruments are charged. Observe the pump suction pressure.
8. Monitor the condenser hotwell level.
9. Pump is now charged upto the Discharge valve

Condensate system line up:

All the condensate system loops are ready for charging & their isolating valves open.
i) BFP sealing
ii) LP Bypass Spray
iii) Aux. PRDS Spray
iv) Valve Gland Sealing System etc.
(Isolate the systems which are not available.)
Keep one control fluid pump in service, to avoid opening of LP bypass spray valves on pressure (if the
CF system is not available, keep the isolating valve before LP bypass spray station closed).
Extend power and control supply to the CEP to be started
CEP starting
1. CEP is charged fully upto the NRV / discharge valve and suction pressure is normal
2. Keep CEP discharge valve and its bypass closed.
3. Oil level is normal in the motor bearings.
All start permissives and protections checked, cleared and kept in service (Necessary protocols made)
: CEP-A/B/C
4. Local temperature and pressure gauges, UCB instruments are available and all pr. switches are
charged (Necessary protocol made).

6. Pump and surrounding area is accessible.


7. Plant area is clean and illuminated properly.
8. Keep one control fluid pump in service, to avoid opening of LP bypass spray valves on
pressure (if the CF system is not available, keep the isolating valve before LP bypass spray
station closed).

Condensate System Charging:

1. Keep inlet and outlet valves of GSC, drain cooler and LPH heaters open

2. Keep the GSC minimum recirculation and deaerator level control valves partially (crack) open.

3. Start charging the system. Open CEP discharge valve bypass gradually. Observe the pump
discharge pressure and keep it within limits.

4. Slowly open the bypass valves to full.

5. Close the line and LP heater water hose vents after sufficient venting.

6. Check for any leakages in the system.

7. Keep the R/C valve in auto

8. After proper venting of the line, to increase the flow, open CEP discharge valve (inching)
partially, maintaining the pump discharge pressure within limits.

9. Maintain hotwell level. Put hotwell level control in auto.

10. Control the opening of GSC minimum recirculation control valve and deaerator level control
valve to control the pressure

11. If water is to be taken to deaerator, reduce the opening of GSC minimum recirculation valve
and increase the opening of deaerator level control valve.

12. Open the CEP discharge valve to full and close the bypass.

13. Gradually charge the other tappings from condensate line as per requirement.

14. Charge the CPU.

Commissioning of Discharge valve
Local operation of Discharge valve

Line up and Tank filling


1. PW tank drains are closed

2. DM make up pump should be in service and pressure is adequate.

3. N2 cylinders should be available in sufficient quantity and its purity should be confirmed
by chemistry for N2 purging.

4. Generator winding should be in bypass condition.

5. Alkaliser unit should be ready for operation.

6. Primary water should be isolated for alkaliser circuit.

7. N2 venting line valve before safety valve should be open.

8. Alkaliser inlet PW line should be isolated.

9. Charge DM water . conductivity /PH should be measured by chemistry and clearance


should be given for make up.

10. Close DM make up line valve. Alkaliser should be lined up for taking DM make up water .

11. Start N2 purging and continue till PW DO reduced to less than 10 ppb.

12. Charge make up water and record DM make up indicator reading. maintain required PW
tank level. When level achieved, close make up valve.

13. Line up alkaliser pump ,it will start/stop in auto as per conductivity. Watch conductivity.

14. PW tank level transmitters / switches are charged and UCB indication is available. Local
gauges are charged.

PW Charging
1. Gradually open the suction valve

2. (while opening, care should be taken to avoid over-traveling of the butterfly valve).

3. All local and remote instruments are charged. Observe the pump suction pressure.

4. Monitor the PW tank level.

5. Pump is now charged upto the Discharge valve


PW starting
1. PW Pump is charged fully upto the NRV / discharge valve and suction pressure is
normal

2. Keep PW discharge valve closed.

3. All start permissives and protections checked, cleared and kept in service (Necessary
protocols made): PW-A/B
4. Local temperature and pressure gauges, UCB instruments are available and all pr.
switches are charged (Necessary protocol made).
5. Pump and surrounding area is accessible.
6. Plant area is clean and illuminated properly.
7. Extend power and control supply to the PW to be started

PW System Charging:
1. Discharge valve is to be opened just after pump start.

2. Mechanical filter should be charged.

3. Winding and bushing water line valves should be opened as per their requirement.

3. Open PHE outlet valve fully. Discharge header vent should be open & till header is fully
primed. Charge any available coolers of turbine side equipment. Keep long recirculation valve
in auto with its isolating valve open.

4. Maintain ECW tank level. Put level control in auto.
