Course Description
This in an exploratory business course that will allow students to first gain basic
knowledge and comprehension about running a successful business and then
applying their knowledge to life application and analyzing real world business
problems. At the end of this course students will be able to create business ideas,
manage expenses in the business, market their business, as well as how to attract
investors. Students who do well in this course will have the opportunity to compete at
reginal, state, and national levels at DECA conferences to display their knowledge in
specific categories that we cover in this course.

 1-2inch three ring binder
 1 packet of three dividers for binders
 2 70 sheet notebooks
 Writing utensils
 Calculator (optional)

Outcomes:
 Recall, graph, investigate, and analyze Teen safety in the work place with
concentration to teen regulations in Washington State.
 Compare differences among different economies.
 Draw conclusions of the advantages and disadvantages of self-
employment.
 Analyze gross, net profit, value, loss, and startup costs.
 Explore business fields (manufacturing, wholesaling, retailing, services,
subcontracting, cottage industries).
 Learn how to identify conflict in the work place.
 Hypothesis how business personality impacts the business.
 Design a mission statement.
 How to effectively promote a business.

Classroom Expectations
 Students will come to class on time prepared and ready to learn.
 Students will complete all assignments including homework, by the given
deadline. Late work will only be accepted if there has been an excused absence
and will only be accepted two days after the excuse absence day for full credit.
All other late work will have a deduction of 5% per day the assignment is late
and will no longer be accepted after 5 days.
 Participation in class discussion will enhance all students learning experiences.
 Cell phones, iPods, mp3 players, and all other personal items are prohibited in
the class at all times unless permitted otherwise.
 Plagiarism and cheating of any form are not tolerated. You will receive a 0 on
any assignments if guilty of this. Refer to student handbook about academic
dishonesty.
 Food is not permitted in the classrooms and drinks must have a screw able lid.
 Extra Credit will be available when found appropriate. For example;
participating at Math Night, helping serve at the Spaghetti Feed, or handing out
event flyers at the basketball game.
