Captain Charles started his yachting career working for the City of Santa Barbara in California as a
Water Safety Law Enforcement Officer. He then returned to College where he graduated from Texas
A & M Maritime College in Galveston, Texas, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine
Transportation. Throughout his career he has obtained many certifications which have led him to be
able to command vessels up to 3000 ITC as well as to sail commercially on unlimited vessels.
Over the past 27 years, Charles has sailed around the world extensively including: across the Atlantic
Ocean (43 times), across the Pacific Ocean (4 times), in the Arctic Ocean, throughout the
Mediterranean Sea (East and West sides), the Irish Sea, the Caribbean Sea, Bahamas, Sea of Japan,
all along the USA East and West Coasts and across the English Channel. In addition to sailing, Charles
has also been directly involved in the building of yachts, the outfitting and commissioning and
warranty phases of yachts and all other operations of yachting including yacht management.
Charles has been a charter Captain for over twelve consecutive years, previous boats include: MY
POLAR STAR, PEGASUS, CAKEWALK, CAPRICE, MIGAEA and several years prior to LADY E on the
popular charter yacht NATITA.
Charles truly enjoys taking guests to places on the water where they can relax and enjoy life, while
having fun in the sun. When Charles is not involved with yachts, he can be found at home with his
family.
Captain - Nicolas Ruiz (on rotation)
As a professional yachtsman, Nicolas has held a U.S. Coast Guard, Masters license since March
1988 and has worked as a professional mariner and diver since 1985. He also has a successful
background in design, developments and implementation of high profile private and charter
program. Nicolas offers a true appreciation of tradition and regiment and brings integrity
towards every vessel size and owners intended vision.
Prior development projects range from award winning new builds, classic yacht restoration and
luxury submersibles showcasing his pride in selection of projects and value for the adventures of
modern yachting. He maintains longstanding relationships across the globe, having operated
under what can be considered some of our industry’s most demanding circumstances.
Having grown up in Hawaii and California, the sea has been an integral part of Nicolas’s life.
Due to this he genuinely tries to bring his own ongoing sense of adventure and excitement to
the guest experience here on LADY E, and is proud to operate as sport fishing guide and dive
master, having led many an owner, guest and charter client to their first trophy fish or glance at
treasures found in underwater exploration.
First Officer - James Kennedy First/Second Officer - Julian Cole
James is a justifiably passionate New
Zealander. Growing up on the Kapiti Julian grew up living the rural life on
Coast he raced sailing dinghy's from a a farm in New Zealand. He sees
young age and now counts; kiting, yachting as the perfect career
diving, water skiing, wake surfing and because it encompasses
swimming as his favoured water international travel with a
activities. He holds an (under utilised) difference – getting to visit places
business degree from Massey University he would never otherwise get to.

(yacht) 3000 qualification. industry for over eight years,
His previous yachting career includes working on yachts ranging from 30
active sports and water safety to 82 meters. In the last 5 years he
programs, and has taken him has worked on SECRET, SANAM
throughout the Atlantic and Pacific and MOGAMBO. He currently holds
Oceans and the Mediterranean and his Chief Mate 3000GT and is
Caribbean Seas. His most memorable halfway through completing his
trip to date is kiting and fishing on the master 3000GT license. He is
west Coast of USA and Mexico.
