INSTALLATION
How to Install
Place the S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl disc into your DVD-ROM drive. If t
he Installer does not automatically run after the disc mounts in the operating s
ystem, manually Explore the disc and run "Setup.exe" to launch the Installer.
It is recommended to shut down all virus-checkers, as they may significantly red
uce the speed of game installation.

CONFIGURABLE GAME CONTROLS
Controls can be configured by going to the main menu, selecting Options and then
selecting the Controls tab. To reset all controls to their default, click the D
efault button on the Controls tab in the Options menu.

GAMEPLAY HINTS, TIPS, AND OTHER INFORMATION
Check your map constantly for clues and locations of other S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s stash
es.
NPCs often have useful information. Don't forget to speak with them.
Keep an extra weapon on hand in case the durability of your main weapon affects i
ts condition.
Low crouch will imporve your aim.
Don't forget to explore the environment for better positions or hidden locations.
If you are in a hostile area and are approaching a corner, it is wise to lean/pee
k around the corner before proceeding.
In multiplayer, remember to spend your money frugally. Money is a limited resourc
e, so budget wisely for longer games.

MULTIPLAYER S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
LAN and Direct IP Multiplayer Connect:
Players can connect to each other either locally over a Local Area Network (LAN)
or remotely via direct IP connection. Both connection types use the TCP/IP prot
ocol. To host or join either type of game, select Network Game from the main men
u.
Product Key Required
You must have installed S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl with a valid product
key in order to connect and play online. A product key cannot be connected by t
wo PCs at the same time. If upon connection you receive an error message related
to your product key, please re-install S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl and
enter a valid product key.
Firewall settings
Hosting multiplayer games from behind a router/firewall/proxy is not currently s
upported. Players can connect to a host using the following information.
If you are behind a firewall/proxy and are able to configure its settings, S.T.A
.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl needs the following TCP ports open in order to fu
nction:
6667 (IRC)
3783 (Voice Chat Port)
27900 (Master Server UDP Heartbeat)
28900 (Master Server List Request)
29900 (GP Connection Manager)
29901 (GP Search Manager)
13139 (Custom UDP Pings)
6515 (Dplay UDP)

Make sure that S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl appear on your Windows Firewa
ll exception list, and the exception lists of other firewall products you are cu
rrently running. If you are behind a DMZ, disable all on-access scanners.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s installer automatically adds the game to the list of exceptions
for Windows Firewall.
Anti-virus software
Many users of antivirus software (such as Nvidia Access Manager, NOD32, Norton,
PandaSoft, etc.) are unable to connect to GameSpy, experience poor performance o
r game crashes. If you experience trouble, we suggest that users place S.T.A.L.K
.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl on the exception lists for these software products or
otherwise disable them during gameplay.
Routers with Symmetrical NAT
Certain routers that use symmetrical NAT may not work well with S.T.A.L.K.E.R.:
Shadow of Chernobyl. These routers are very rare, and most have firmware updates
available to fix the problem. If you are using a router with symmetrical NAT, p
lease contact the manufacturer to see if there are firmware updates available.

PERFORMANCE TIPS
To improve performance, from the main menu, select Options, and then select the
Video tab. Any of the following should result in improved performance.
Change Render to Static Lighting
Lower the Quality Settings to Medium, Low or Minimum
Lower the game resolution to 1024x768 or lower
Enable Full Screen
Under the Advanced button, lower the settings for Vision Distance; Anisotropic Fi
ltering; Antialiasing; and Shadows Quality
Background Applications and Performance
Programs that run in the background while on the Internet, such as ICQ, web brow
sers, voice communication applications, or file sharing programs cut into the sp
eed at which S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl plays. Turning off these Intern
et-specific applications can also increase your game speed. Antivirus and firewa
ll software also commonly contribute to performance issues. If you experience pe
rformance problems with Antivirus or firewall software try to configure the soft
ware to exclude S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl from security checks. Contac
t your software vendor for details.
System RAM and Performance
Another method of increasing performance in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
is to add RAM to your computer if you are playing on a 512MB system. S.T.A.L.K.E
.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl can consume a great deal of memory in very large games
causing the system to use virtual memory. This process is slower than using RAM
directly, and while the speed of your processor is a factor in the performance o
f the game, additional memory can greatly enhance your game speed on baseline sy
stems. Please ensure that virtual memory is enabled in your operating system.
Dual Core and Performance
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl should utilize your dual and quad core proce
ssor natively and automatically. Running a dual or quad core processor is one of
the best ways to improve performance.
Updated Video Drivers
It is highly recommended that you install the latest drivers for you video card.
These can be downloaded from your video card manufacturer's website. Please vis
it http://www.asus.com/ depending on the type of card you have.
Updated Sound Drivers
If you are experiencing problems with audio, or general performance problems, yo
u should check with your soundcard manufacturer to see if there are updated driv
ers available. These can usually be obtained from the soundcard manufacturer web
site.
Motherboard Drivers
Often motherboard drivers are overlooked when updating systems, and as a result
most computers are running very old versions that simply do not work properly an
d may cause very noticeable slow downs and stability issues. Please check with y
our motherboard manufacturer to see if there are updated drivers available.

5. This Agreement is effective upon your installation of the Software and s
hall continue until revoked by THQ or until you breach any term hereof; upon ter

puter Program (except to the extent the Software is made to operate within a com
puter operating system and in connection with other computer program) or create

ial and workmanship for 90 days from the date of purchase. If the recording med
ium is found defective within 90 days of original purchase, THQ agrees to replac
e, free of charge, any product discovered to be defective within such period upo

11. INJUNCTION. Because THQ would be irreparably damaged if the terms of thi
s License Agreement were not specifically enforced, you agree that THQ shall be
entitled, without bond, other security or proof of damages, to appropriate equit
able remedies with respect to breaches of this Agreement, in addition to such ot
her remedies as THQ may otherwise have under applicable laws.
12. INDEMNITY. At THQ's request, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold har
mless THQ, its subsidiaries, affiliates, contractors, officers, directors, emplo
yees, agents, licensors, licensees, distributors, developers, content providers,
and other users of the Software, from all damages, losses, liabilities, claims
and expenses, including attorneys' fees, arising directly or indirectly from you
r acts and omissions to act in using the Software pursuant to the terms of this
License Agreement or any breach of this License Agreement by you. THQ reserves
the right, at its own expense, to assume the exclusive defense and control of an
y matter otherwise subject to indemnification by you hereunder, and in such even
t, you shall have no further obligation to provide indemnification for such matt
er.
13. U.S. GOVERNMENT RESTRICTED RIGHTS. The Software and documentation have b
een developed entirely at private expense and are provided as "Commercial Comput
er Software" or "restricted computer software." Use, duplication or disclosure b
y the U.S. Government or a U.S. Government subcontractor is subject to the restr
ictions set forth in subparagraph (c)(1)(ii) of the Rights in Technical Data and
Computer Software clauses in DFARS 252.227-7013 or as set forth in subparagraph
(c)(1) and (2) of the Commercial Computer Software Restricted Rights clauses at
FAR 52.227-19, as applicable. The Contractor / Manufacturer is THQ Inc., 29903
Agoura Road, Agoura Hills, CA 91301.
14. TERMINATION. Without prejudice to any other rights of THQ, this License
Agreement and your right to use the Software may automatically terminate without
notice from THQ if you fail to comply with any provision of this Agreement or a
ny terms and conditions associated with the Software. In such event, you must d
estroy all copies of this Software and all of its component parts.
15. GENERAL PROVISIONS. You may not use, copy, modify, sublicense, rent, sel
l, assign or transfer the rights or obligations granted to you in this Agreement
, except as expressly provided in this Agreement. Any assignment in violation of
this Agreement is void, except that you may transfer your Software to another p
erson provided that person accepts the terms of this License Agreement. If any
provision of this Agreement is held to be unenforceable for any reason, such pro
vision shall be reformed only to the extent necessary to make it enforceable, an
d such decision shall not affect the enforceability of: (i) such provision under
other circumstances, or (ii) the remaining provisions hereof under all circumst
ances. THQ's failure to enforce at any time any of the provisions of this Agreem
ent shall in no way be construed to be a present or future waiver of such provis
ions, nor in any way affect the right of any party to enforce each and every suc
h provision thereafter. The express waiver by THQ of any provision, condition or
requirement of this Agreement shall not constitute a waiver of any future oblig
ation to comply with such provision, condition or requirement. Notwithstanding a
nything else in this Agreement, no default, delay or failure to perform on the p
art of THQ shall be considered a breach of this Agreement if such default, delay
or failure to perform is shown to be due to causes beyond the reasonable contro
l of THQ. This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of Californi
a and the United States without regard to its conflicts of laws rules and you co
nsent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts in Los Angel
es County, California. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the Intern
ational Sale of Goods shall not apply to this Agreement. This Agreement represen
