Last week Wednesday, the mine hosted not only

The day’s schedule included messages from the SHE

the mine and year-to-date incidents of injuries at the
mine as well as FOG incidents. The format of the day

On strike
At the time of going to press members of the South
African Municipal Union Branch in the Fetakgomo
Tubatse Local Municipality were still on a strike
that they had embarked upon last Monday.
The strike is a protected legal strike and
during their protest action outside the municipal
head office in Burgersfort on Monday, they waved
around a hand-written memorandum wherein
linkage between the illegal VBS money invest-
ment scandal and the, according to them, abortive
personnel integration of the erstwhile Fetakgomo
and Tubatse local municiplaities are insinuated.
In the memorandum it is also alleged that several
senior officials are corrupt and their dismissal is
demanded.
Chairperson of the local branch of SAMWU, Mr
Collins Dlamini, told Platinum Gazette on Thurs-
day that following a council meeting at Apel on
Tuesday, the memorandum was still scheduled
to be handed over after the Local Council decid-
ed to give some senior managers seven days to
respond to allegations against them before they
are suspended. A meeting was also due to be held
between employee representatives and the Mayor
later on Thursday.
Last week the mayor alleged in an interview
with a national media organisation that the munic-
ipality and its executives were clueless about the
legality of the Venda Building Society Mutual Bank
investment of more than R200 million.

New Steelie leaders

on an adventure

Matthew

“But go and
learn what
this means:
‘I desire
mercy, not
sacrifice.’
For I have
not come
to call the
righteous,
but sinners.”

On Friday 19 October the Steel-

poort Academy leaders of 2018
initiated the new leaders of 2019.
It was a fun day enjoyed by
everyone. The leaders who were
elected for 2019 departed on
their leader camp that was held at
Blyde Adventure Camp in Hoed-
spruit on Thursday 25 October,
they returned on Sat 27 October.
It was a wonderful camp, that
included many fun activities like
tubing down the river, an obstacle
course and fun games. A lot of at-
tention was given to team building
activities and to the responsibilities
of a leader.
The learners were blessed to have
four youth workers who attended
the course, these young ladies
ensured that the learners were
informed of their responsibilities
and duties as leaders for 2019 in
a fun way.
