Bistro 163 News

Free Community Dinner
October has been a busy month at Bistro 163, Ottawa County’s only “Pay It Forward” restaurant. Our Free
Community Dinner on October 8th featured an “Octoberfest” menu of bratwurst,
sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and gravy, German pretzels, and apple crisp.

Our next dinner at Bistro 163 will be this Monday, November 12, 5-7 PM at Bistro 163.
We are located in the Sutton Center at the SE corner of Perry Street and Buckeye, in Port
Clinton. The address is 1848 E Perry Street, phone 419.734.9887. All neighbors are
welcome to attend! The Firelands Folk Band will be playing that evening.

Toledo Blade Review

On Thursday, October 18th, the Toledo Blade surprised Bistro 163 with a full page article,
color photographs, and a rare 5 star rating. Diners from the newspaper’s “Bill of Fare” department praised the food
and the mission of Bistro 163. Copy and paste this link into your web browser to enjoy the story!

Events at Bistro
On Friday, October 19th, Bistro 163 fed all of the volunteers from Project Connect at the Sutton Center. Sponsored
by Community Support Services, dozens of local service providers and non-profits were everywhere inside and
outside, providing “one stop shopping” for anyone in our community needing assistance of any kind.

On Saturday night, October 27th, Bistro 163 sponsored our first Trick or Trot
Run/Walk to raise money for the restaurant. Our sponsors, the Catawba Island
Club, WPCR Radio Port Clinton, and The Fremont Elite Runners Club (Dave Slater),
pulled out all the stops on a rainy cold night. All of our runners, volunteers and
supporters had a great time, in spite of the weather. Running awards and costume awards
were celebrated, and Chef Stacy served homemade chili and hot chocolate. Among the winning
runners were Kurt and Tish Vardyan, who drove up from Columbus for the event at the
invitation of John and Karen Vardyan. Kurt finished first in the men’s division, and Tish finished
third in the women’s division (shown on the right).
November 2018 Page 5
Chef Stacy Maple came as Hurricane Heather, broadcasting for the Weather
Channel on a dark and stormy night. The Witches of Catawba won best group
costume, and the Bistro’s barista, Laura Church, dressed up like a cup of coffee
and won best individual costume.

Just like this snow bird, most of our Bistro 163 volunteers are flying south for the winter,
so we are in need of Bistro volunteers! Could you volunteer a day each month or week?
