I suppose it is safe to say that we are fully submerged in the glorious
leaf-changing season that is fall. Fall on the northern hemisphere can
be quite unpredictable; pine or lavender scented candles are quickly re-
placed with pumpkin spice or cinnamon sugar aromas. Green leaves
suspended from the tree tops, once bright and green, now hang with an
orange-yellowish hue, resembling pumpkins and gourds on doorsteps.
Welcome Officer Santana! With all this undeniable change in the atmosphere, I can’t help but think
that MAYBE IT’S TIME TO CHANGE SOMETHING FOR MYSELF.
I began writing for Northside Vibes last fall—a year ago! Since then
I’ve been writing for this wonderful paper—contributing writings main-
ly refined, but not limited to spreading positivity—no matter the cir-
cumstances! The motive was to improve everyday attitude into
something that would INFLUENCE READERS TO BE-
COME KIND, MORE AWARE INDIVIDUALS, AND
SELFISHLY I WOULD LIKE TO BELIEVE THAT AFTER
A YEAR… I ACHIEVED THAT GOAL!
I’m fairly certain that IF I HADN’T MOVED TO RICHMOND WHEN I DID, I
WOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HAVE A VOICE AND BE A
PART OF “THE GOOD NEWSpaper”. However, something that is far more
marvelous than that personal revelation is discovering others with ex-
periences and opportunities similar to my own.
THIS YEAR I would like to introduce friends of mine who also share
love for creating, performing, and influencing artistry around the City
of Richmond. This city, where I’ve learned so much, is breeding ground
for creativity and kindness!
With the power of conversation and my trusty pen and paper, I WILL
TRY TO EXPLAIN “EXACTLY” HOW RICHMOND CULTIVATES
AND INFLUENCES ENDLESS ARTISTIC POSSIBILITIES FOR
MORE THAN JUST MYSELF. I’m looking forward to taking a leap and
broadening this little 350 word column into something more inclusive.
THANK YOU TO ANYONE WHO HAS CONTRIBUTED TO
THIS PROJECT JUST BY READING EVERY MONTH.
I CAN’T WAIT TO SHOW YOU WHAT IS POSSIBLE WITH
ALL THE VAST IMAGINATIVE CREATORS IN RICHMOND!
RPD Welcomes New Hispanic Liaison
Chief Alfred Durham has named Officer Kenia Marte Santana as the Richmond Police Department’s new Hispanic Liaison to serve the community.
A Richmond native, Officer Marte Santana previously worked in patrol at Second Precinct where she developed strong relationships with the Latino
community. “It is an honor for me to be able to work with my beloved community,” said Officer Marte Santana. “I want to continue to enhance
the relationship between RPD officers and members of the Hispanic community.”
In her new role, Officer Marte Santana will continue to build community trust with the police through community crime prevention academies,
community meetings, and safety seminars. She will also provide assistance with interpretations for officers and detectives during investigations.
