The Learn Mode programming provides basic configuration functions without the
requirement for a computer to be connected to the C-Bus Network. This enables quick
configuration of a C-Bus Network when it is installed. This mode is enabled by pressing
one of the override buttons on a C-Bus2 output unit for 10 seconds until the Unit and
C-Bus lights flash alternately.
Once the Learn Mode is enabled, the override switch associated with the desired output
channel (or channels) is (are) pressed. A key on a C-Bus input unit to control this
(these) loads is then pressed. Once all selections have been made, the Learn Mode is
exited by pressing any override switch on a C-Bus2 output unit which is taking part in
learn mode. The operation can now be tested by pressing the key on the C-Bus input
unit. See the C-Bus Learn Mode Operations and Programming Guide for more details.
You will need C-Bus Installation Software 2.7 or newer to successfully program
your C-Bus 12 Channel Professional Architectural Dimmer Unit
5.2 Configuration
One of the first things that must be done is the retrieval of the unit configuration.
Unlike other C-Bus products not all the information about the unit can be stored
in the C-Bus database. As such an ini file is used for advanced parameter
storage which the C-Bus database accesses to retrieve the unit configuration.
To upload the unit configuration double click on the line for the C-Bus 12
Channel Professional Architectural Unit in the C-Bus Installation Software
Browser. A dialogue box will appear asking if you want to retrieve the stored
scenes from the unit. Click Yes or No as to whether or not you wish to upload
the Scene data from the Unit. A progress bar, like the one below, indicates the
progress of the upload.
The Part, Application and Area fields can be edited here. The Project, Network
and Unit fields cannot and are subsequently greyed out.
The top row of tabs provides access to various aspects of C-Bus 12 Channel
Professional Architectural programming. These cover basic C-Bus settings,
Channel setup for C-Bus and DMX, the Restore Scene, Scene setup, Global
Parameters and Status.
A shortcut to jump to the next item has been provided. Pressing the TAB
key moves the cursor to the next group. This works for all drop-down
boxes.
Pressing a numeric key will cause the list to jump to that number. So
pressing 5, say will cause the list to jump to 5. Pressing it again will cause
a jump to 50.
Pressing a numeric key will cause the list to jump to that number. So

The C-Bus Lock Group represents the Enable Group Address on the
Enable Control Application ($CB) that is to be used to turn this feature on
and off. Turning this Enable Group on enables the C-Bus Lock and turning
the Enable Group off again disables the C-Bus Lock feature.
Note that the channel output voltage can not exceed the supply voltage.
The DMX tab contains the settings for how the unit responds to DMX as well as
its behaviour when switching to and from C-Bus control. This tab allows the
DMX address assignment, the option to resume the C-Bus Level or update the
C-Bus Level when switching back from DMX control on a per-channel basis, the
C-Bus to DMX fade rate per channel, the DMX to C-Bus fade rate per channel
and the Enable Group Address on the Enable Control Application ($CB) that is
to be used to turn this feature on and off.
To select a DMX Address for an output channel simply click on the arrow
on the side of the drop-down box to display a list of available DMX
Addresses. Click on the address that you wish to use. If Unused is
selected the channel will remain in C-Bus control when the unit is switched
into DMX mode.
Note that it is possible to have channels that use the same C-Bus Group
Address under C-Bus control and use different DMX addresses.
To select the channel to resume the C-Bus state after returning from DMX
mode click the radio button under the heading ‘Take C-Bus Level’. If
‘Update C-Bus Level’ was previously selected the radio button under that
heading will dissapear and the one under ‘Take C-Bus Level’ will be
selected.
If you want to update C-Bus after using DMX click on the radio button
under the heading ‘Update C-Bus Level’. If ‘Take C-Bus Level’ was
previously selected the radio button under that heading will dissapear and
the one under ‘Update C-Bus Level’ will be selected.
To set the fade rate for the C-Bus to DMX fade for an output channel
simply click on the arrow on the side of the drop-down box to display a list
of available fade rates. Click on the fade rate that you wish to use.
To set the fade rate for the DMX to C-Bus fade for an output channel
simply click on the arrow on the side of the drop-down box to display a list
of available fade rates. Click on the fade rate that you wish to use.
Note that this option only applies when the channel is set to ‘Take C-Bus
Level’ when returning from DMX mode.

The DMX Enable Group represents the Enable Network Variable on the
Enable Control Application ($CB) that is to be used to turn this feature on
and off. Setting the Value of this Enable Network Variable to $FF enables
DMX mode and setting the Value of this Enable Network Variable to $00
again disables DMX mode.
To specify the Enable Control Group to use for this feature simply click on
the arrow on the side of the drop-down box to display a list of available
Enable Group Addresses. Click on the Group that you wish to use.
When this option is enabled any change to a fade rate will automatically
be reflected in all the other fade rates for that control transition, either
C-Bus to DMX or DMX to C-Bus.
To set the Control Fail level for an output channel simply click on the
arrow on the side of the drop-down box to display a list of available output
levels. Click on the level that you wish to use.
To set the fade rate for the Control Fail feature for all output channels
simply click on the arrow on the side of the drop-down box to display a list
of available fade rates. Click on the fade rate that you wish to use.
5.7 Scenes
One of the benefits of an automation system is that you can combine several
events together to create a special effect. An example of this experience
obtained when attending the movies: the house lights dim, the drum roll from
the sound track plays, the curtain opens and the movie begins to play. You can
create exactly this effect by using C-Bus scenes. Anything on your C-Bus
system can be included in a scene. Ask your installer for information on how
scenes can be used to set special moods.
To select a scene to program go to the Scenes tab of the GUI. In the upper left
corner of the GUI is the scene selection box. To select a scene number to
configure simply click on the arrow on the side of the drop-down box to display
a list of scenes, 1..32. Click on the scene number that you wish to configure.
A Basic Scene allows the remote triggering of Scenes in the same manner
as those available in C-Touch, Neo, Reflections, Scene Master or Scene
Controller. In this manner using the Recall function from a conventional
key unit to recall a C-Bus Action Selector on the Control Application can
trigger a Scene.
An Advanced Scene is a new type of Scene that has not been used on
other C-Bus products until now. It links a Scene to one entire C-Bus Group
Address. Recalling an Action Selector between $00 and $FF will cause the
unit to create a Scene that is scaled in between the On and Off Scenes,
depending upon the particular Action Selector used
The mode of the scene is selected by simply clicking in one of the radio
buttons in the ‘Scene Mode’ box on the right hand side of the GUI.
Both an On and an Off Scene can be defined, such that when the
C-Bus Control Application Group is Off the Off Scene will be applied
to the output channels and when the C-Bus Control Application
Group is On the On Scene will be applied to the output channels.
Note that both the Trigger Group and the Action Selector must be
specified for remote triggering of a Scene.
5.7.2.2 Action Selector
The Action Selector refers to the C-Bus Action Selector on the
selected Trigger Group that you wish to use to trigger the Scene.
The Action Selector is not applicable to an Advanced Scene and is
therefore not selectable in this mode.
Note that both the Trigger Group and the Action Selector must be
specified for remote triggering of a Basic Scene.
5.7.3 Scene On
The Scene On tab allows configuration of the Channel Levels and Ramp
Rates when the Scene is triggered.
On the left hand side of this tab are the 12 output channels and drop-down
boxes that allow the user to specify the output level for each channel.
To set the output level for each output channel simply click on the arrow
on the side of the drop-down box to display a list of available output levels.
Click on the output level that you wish to use.
In the centre of this tab is another drop-down box that allows a Ramp Rate
to be specified for the Scene. This determines the rate at which the unit
will fade its output channels to the settings in the Scene when the Scene is
triggered. This setting applies to all channels.
To set the fade rate for the Scene for all output channels simply click on
the arrow on the side of the drop-down box to display a list of available
fade rates. Click on the fade rate that you wish to use.
Note that unit output channels that share the same C-Bus Group Address
will automatically be assigned the same output level.
If using a C-Bus key unit to control the Advanced Scene the key unit fade
rate should be set to the same fade rate as that used in the Advanced
Scene. This will ensure best performance.
All options in the off scene cannot be selected in Basic Scene Mode as the
Off Scene does not apply in Basic Scene Mode.
5.9 Status
The status tab provides feedback as to the current state of the unit and C-Bus
network. It allows the retrieval of the unit serial number, C-Bus Firmware
version, Dimmer Firmware version, the C-Bus network voltage and if Learn
Mode, Clock Generator, Local Toggle, Remote On and Remote Off are active.
Three options relating to Scenes are available and are selectable by the radio
buttons on the Save Options box.
Selecting Download No Scenes will only download the unit configuration data
without any of the Scenes in the unit. This is very useful if no changes to
Scenes have been made or Scenes are not being used.
Download Modified Scenes will only download the Scenes to the unit that have
been changed since the GUI was last opened. This is very useful if you are
modifying an existing Scene in the unit.
Download All Scens will download all 32 Scenes to the unit. This is very useful if
you want configure the unit in the database first and then transfer the Scenes to
the unit at a later date. This option must be used whenever you want to transfer
Scenes that already exist in the database to a unit.
How long the download takes depends upon how many of the Scenes have
been used. If no Scenes are used the download time will be approximately 12
seconds. If all 32 Scenes are used the download time could be up to 2 minutes.
