Creating Basic Objects

All drawings consist of basic objects that you create using basic commands. In this lesson, you learn how to create
objects such as lines, circles, arcs, rectangles, and polygons. You also learn how to use the Erase command to
erase objects.
Learning to create basic geometry is critical to success in the software. As you become proficient with basic
geometry creation, you can move on to creating more advanced object types.

Objectives
After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
1. Use the Line command to create lines in the drawing.
2. Use the Circle command to create circles in the drawing.
3. Use the Arc command to create arcs in the drawing.
4. Use the Erase command to erase objects in the drawing.
5. Use the Undo and Redo commands to return to previous drawing states. Use the Rectangle command to create
rectangles in the drawing.
6. Use the Polygon command to create equal-sided polygons in the drawing.

Line Command
Use the Line command to create a single line or multiple line segments from a start point to an endpoint.
The following illustration shows a line segment being drawn using the dynamic input interface to specify the length (1)
and angle (2) of the segment.
Command Access
Modify: Trim, Extend, Stretch and Offset
After this lesson, you will be able to
1. Use trim function to remove unwanted line
2. Use extend function to extend the line up to the point you want
3. Stretch the line to the point you want
4. Offset function

Trim
Trim is used to remove the line that you do not need.
Under modify toolbar, there is a button called trim.
Alternatively, you can type “tr” or “trim” to use this function.
Extend
Extend is to extend the existing line to meet edges specified
Under modify toolbar, there is a button called Extend
Alternatively, you can type “ex” or “extend” to use this function.
Stretch
Stretch is used to make object shorter or longer.
Under modify toolbar, there is a button called Stretch.
Alternatively, you can type “s” or type “stretch” to use this function.
Offset
Offset is used to create concentric circles, parallel lines, and parallel curves.
Under modify toolbar, there is a button called Offset.
Alternatively, you can type “o” to use this function.
Modify: Copy, Move, Array, Mirror, Erase, Rotate, Scale, Chamfer, Fillet
After this lesson, you will be able to
1. Use copy function; direct copying and also by position
2. Move object
3. Use array function; by row and column, by polar, and by line path
4. Use mirror function
5. Use erase to remove object
6. Use rotate function to rotate the object
7. Scale up and scale down object
8. Chamfer / Bevel edges of objects
9. Round and fillet edge of objects
10. Break and join object

Copy
Copy is used to create identical copy of objects with specified distance in a specified direction.
Under modify toolbar, there is a button called Copy.
Alternatively, you can type “cp” to use this function.

P/S: Ctrl + C is a direct copying (copy clip) where it does not specify any distance and direction.
Move
Move is used to move objects a specified distance in a specified direction.
Under modify toolbar, there is a button called Move.
Alternatively, you can type “m” to use this function.
Array
Array is used to create multiple copies of objects in a pattern.
Under modify toolbar, there is a button called Array.
Alternatively, you can type “ar” to use this function.
Mirror
Mirror is used to create a mirrored copy of selected objects
Under modify toolbar, there is a button called Mirror.
Alternatively, you can type “mi” to use this function.
Erase
Erase is used to remove objects from a drawing. It is similar to delete. However, the function erase can give you
more control in terms of selecting option instead of object. Figure below shows you the number of options you can
select.
Under modify toolbar, there is a button called Erase.
Alternatively, you can type “e” to use this function.
Rotate
Rotate is used to rotate objects around a base point
Under modify toolbar, there is a button called Rotate.
Alternatively, you can type “ro” to use this function.
Scale
Scale is used to enlarge or reduce selected objects, keeping the proportions of the object the same after scaling
Under modify toolbar, there is a button called Scale.
Alternatively, you can type “sc” to use this function.
Chamfer
Chamfer is used to bevels the edges of objects
Under modify toolbar, there is a button called Chamfer.
Alternatively, you can type “cha” to use this function.
Fillet
Fillet is used to round and fillet the edges of objects
Under modify toolbar, there is a button called Fillet.
Alternatively, you can type “f” to use this function.
Break a point
It is used to break selected object at a single point.
Under modify toolbar, there is a button called Break a Point.
Break
Break is used to break selected object between two points.
Under modify toolbar, there is a button called Break.
Alternatively, you can type “br” to use this function.
Join
Joins is used to join similar objects to form a single unbroken object
Under modify toolbar, there is a button called Join.
Alternatively, you can type “j” to use this function.
