the teacher will supply iPads to the students who do not bring their own)

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Using Kahoot in the classroom reaches every student because it is so
flexible. It is read to every student by the teacher, this helps students with both vision and attention
problems. It also is using technology and not the tradition paper and pencil, also useful for both students will
attention struggles and students on the Autistic spectrum. Finally, because the Kahoot screen is only four
squares and they tap the correct answer, the students do not suffer from becoming overwhelmed with
questions (like a normal quiz would do).

Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
The SRT activity will be the start of class, it is a “kickstart” activity that the teacher will use to get the students
thinking about their prior knowledge having to do with space. The teacher will introduce the activity by first
doing a practice quiz together. (The teachers board and phone, any quiz is acceptable). Then the students will
log in on their own and do the activity.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☒ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☐ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☒ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Student Response and Assessment Tools
Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity: The students will be waiting, reading, listening
and responding to the displayed questions on the board. The teacher will be reading, out loud, the questions
on the board. Each student will need their own form of technology (iPad, phone, computer or other table).
The lesson, all together, should not last more than twenty minutes.
Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☒ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):
The questions are listed in the Kahoot activity.
Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?
☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
This way the students get an immediate response on what was correct and what was not.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
We will begin our regularly planned lesson, the Kahoot is used as a “kickstart” of the class and get the
students thinking about the subject of space.

How will the data be used?

The data is collected by the teacher to understand where the students are lacking. This is not taken up for a
grade, while it will help the teacher to see where everyone is at, the activity is mainly for students to get their
thinking going about the subject. It is in a game format, making it fun and will entertain all while teaching the
students. I do not think that for this activity there will be a need for differentiation between students
however, if a student does not understand the topic, the teacher can walk around and individually reexplain
how to access the Kahoot online.

Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.

The goal for this activity is for the students to kickstart their brain and start to access their prior knowledge
about space. By using this activity, the students are already thinking about what they know and what they are
eager to learn.
Reflective Practice: I believe that SRT’s can help the students to not only expand past their knowledge now
but can open their eyes to what they need to know and what they have already learned. I think it is an
exceptional way to assess the class and erase the test anxiety that most students get when they see the white
paper with black writing placed in front of them. SRT’s take a lot of stress off both teachers and students. This
is the future of assessing students.
