5 mins. Introduction:
- Once students are in their window seats, introduce
activity by asking: “What do you think of when you
think of Fall?”
- Tell students that you think of pumpkins and cats and
show them the large cards.
- Observation:

build their own musical sentence.
 When you give the signal, everyone makes a
circle with their tip-toes on the edge of the
carpet while holding hands.
 Together, you take one step back and they make

organized. (Bag touches the edge of the carpet
and the cards go in sorted piles on top.)
 Students sit down and you pass out the packs of
cards. Once they receive their bag they can
organize their cards.
- Tell the students that they have eight beats to create a
musical sentence. Ask: “How many beats does a
musical sentence get?” - Observation:
- Tell the students that we’re going to go around the Creation of 4 beat
circle and perform our musical sentences. There are four ostinati.

are standing and waiting for their turn they keep the beat
on the shoulders. After they perform they sit down and
keep the beat on their laps.

- Challenge the students to all individually speak their
ostinato at the same time.

- Begin teaching “Pumpkin, Pumpkin”. First sing in


totality 4 times keeping the beat in different spots. Then
teach by rote.
