My purpose in life is to serve the Filipino people, especially those who suffer from poverty.

Specifically, I look forward to providing legal service to those who cannot afford it. This can be

achieved by becoming a public lawyer. It is also important to me that I do this while also attaining

financial success. I believe this is possible and those who serve well should be rewarded

accordingly.

My affinity leans toward logic and debate. Defending a stand on an issue is of utmost

importance to me and I find it hard to tolerate indifference and neutrality. As the saying goes,

neutrality is siding with the professor. Thus, I can’t see myself in any other profession but law.

Law is a career laced with prestige and a reputation for being a good way to get rich.

Popular lawyers that have inspired me include late Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago and Justice

Isagani Cruz, and Chief Justice Jose Abad Santos. They were successful lawyers who were also

game changers in Philippine history. Senator Miriam Santiago was a great constitutionalist and the

best president we never had. Justice Isagani Cruz had a unique writing style which made watching

him engage in battle through his writing a brilliant experience. Chief Justice Jose Abad Santos was

a man who believed in justice and died protecting his sworn duty. His refusal to cooperate with

the Japanese forces during his time as the Acting President of the country. These three lawyers are

my role models and I will strive to emulate them in my legal career.

As the song goes, Climb these hills, I’m reaching for the heights, Chasing all the lights that

shine.
