Introduction: Bladder cancer is the most common urinary tract malignancy, and is the 7th most
common cancer in men and 17th in women. Whereas in Indonesia, the incidence of bladder cancer
reached 3.2 per 100,000, and tends to increase 15% per year in the last decade. About 75% of
bladder malignancies are non muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) which is limited to mucosa
or submucosa, and 17% develops into muscle invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). Until now, data on
NMIBC in Indonesia is still very limited so researchers through this research intends to study the
characteristics of NMIBC in Dr. Hasan Sadikin Bandung.
Material and Method: The design used in this study is a descriptive restrospective. The subjects
of this study were patients with NMIBC who were treated at the Urology Department of the Hasan
Sadikin Center General Hospital in Bandung from January 2008 to December 2017.
Characteristics assessed included patient age, gender, history of smoking, history of previous
urinary tract infections, history of channel stones previous urinary system, type of instillation of
intravesica chemotherapy, follow-up, and histopathological examination and surgical therapy.
Result: This study found 464 patients with bladder cancer cases, 36 patients (7.76%) of whom
were diagnosed with NMIBC who were treated at the Urology Department of Hasan Sadikin
Central General Hospital Bandung in January 2008 to December 2017. With the median age of
60- 69 years as the most common. Male gender, history of smoking, and urinary tract infection are
found as a risk factors for NMIBC. The most given therapy is Transurethral Resection of the
Bladder Tumour (TURBT) with the instillation of Mitomycin chemotherapy intravesically, in this
study we also found minimal side effects of instillation of intravesical chemotherapy. There was
also 1 patient (2.78%) with disease progression to Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer (MIBC).
Conclusion: In our study, the percentage of NMIBC was only 7.67%. This is because our hospital
is a tertiary hospital, so patients who come for treatment tend to be at an advanced level. This
limitation also led to only 1 patient (2.78%) with progression to MIBC.
