Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
Websites like Kahoot give students the ability to compete with their classmates, but also be quizzed on
information at the same time. Many students enjoy competition and this is a good way to tailor a lesson to
those students. It is also a visual activity that is beneficial to students who learn best visually.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
This activity could be used as a review for a test or before a timed test. This could follow a lesson on addition
and subtraction and ensure that students know their math facts. I would introduce this as a new way for
students to review math facts.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☐ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

the students will login to Kahoot and compete in a multiple-choice game that tests them on their math facts.
They will be quizzed on both addition and subtraction facts. The teacher must pull up the Kahoot and prompt
it to begin. The materials needed are a device that can connect to the internet, whether it be a computer,
phone, or iPad. Each question is on the screen for 20 seconds and there are 8 questions.

Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?
☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all the questions and display
correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Giving students immediate feedback gives them the opportunity to correct themselves and improve for the
questions that follow.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
After this activity students, could complete a physical timed test. The teacher could also begin to build on
these math facts that the students already know and move forward in completing the math standards.
How will the data be used?
This activity and the data collected could be used to see which students are ready to move forward and learn
more challenging math facts, and which students need to continue practicing the more basic facts. I think
with SRS activities like Kahoot I would grade on whether the student took the activity seriously and completed
it. Knowing how students are doing with math facts is important for parents to know. Math facts are
something students should always be practicing.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
I would hope for this activity to be an interactive way for all the students to review their math facts in an
exciting way. This could also be used at the beginning of the year for a baseline on all the students.
Reflective Practice:
I believe this activity could help the impact the students by letting them know where they stand when it
comes to their fact fluency knowledge. This could be followed up by a lesson on word problems or adding or
subtracting multiple factors.
