Begins saying that nutrients are needed through daily life but, it becomes vital when you

are pregnant. A woman who doesn’t eat right is more prone to give birth to a baby with low birth

weight. When a baby is born weighing less than 2.5kg they are more likely to suffer from illness

and are harder to feed. A mother’s diet has a tremendous effect in the baby’s life. Poor dieting

can lead to illness later on the child’s life. It is important that women who are about to conceive

know these things. (Dietary requirements for optimum nutrition, both for themselves and for

their unicorn child. The study also says listeria can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, and severe

illness in a newborn baby. You should avoid soft cheese like brie, all blue-veined cheese, and

camembert. Cheddar cottage cheese and other processed cheese are just fine. Uncooked or cold

meat should be avoided completely. Daily caffeine limits should be 300mg. High levels of

caffeine can cause low birth rates, and miscarriage. Caffeine is in tea, coffee, and soft drinks that

is why pop should be limited as well. The FSA says women should not drink over 1 to 2 units

once or twice a week. Also avoiding salmonella is important always wash your hands after you

have been handling raw meat, or wear glove when handling raw meat. cake or biscuit intake

should also be cut down due to high sugar levels diabetes is more easily to obtain when you are

pregnant. Studies show that most babies who are not big in size at birth have an increased risk of

cardiovascular disease in adulthood.

Women who are at risk typically are in poverty. Having a low income means that they are

unable to afford the right foods for them and the baby. Goose had a study and said that diets are

affected by barriers such as cost, availability l, access to family eating habits, and most

importantly support. (Having the personal belief in the ability to change). That is why midwives

are placed in the mother’s life, to help and guide the mothers. As concerns raise, midwives will

be there to guide and answer any questions a mother might have.

In conclusion maternal nutrition is very important. Birth outcomes emphasize the need for

consistent and thorough assessments of women’s diets throughout her pregnancy.

Denktaş, Semiha, et al. “Design and Outline of the Healthy Pregnancy 4 All Study.” BMC

Pregnancy & Childbirth, vol. 14, no. 1, Jan. 2014, pp. 1–11. EBSCOhost,

In this article a study a program called Healthy Pregnancy 4 All (HP4ALL) was created.

They say that risks can occur during the implantation period, but can be prevented that is why

they set up this intervention program. Next the group focused on detecting risks early in the

pregnancy. They broke up a neighborhood of women into 2 groups based on where they lived.

The first group is the low risk pregnancy and delivery. The second group is the high-risk

pregnancy and delivery provided by the OBGYN. The level of care depends on the clear

distinction between moms who are high risk and low risk.
Brown 3

The purpose of this study/article is to explain the (HP4ALL), a group based in the

Netherlands. Then they began to show a data table which contained the different neighborhoods,

pregnancies, and dealings.

Table 1 shows Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, and Utrecht which are represented as

the G4 cities, and then you have the rest of the Netherlands. The table contains 97% of all

pregnancies in the Netherlands. Data is collected by 94% of midwives, 99% of Gynecologist,

68% of pediatricians, and 100% of NCIU pediatricians. The table shows percentages of ages,

that are pregnant, the neighborhoods they live in, whether they are deprived, and many more

facts. Table 2 shows all the cities pregnancy percentage, and Table 3 shows, the different risk

factors.

In conclusion, the study was to show the set-up of HP4ALL which basically is a study

which high risk regions are targeted with interventions based on pre-labor care. This group in the

Netherlands targets mothers who need care, before the baby is born, and help while you are

pregnant. I know that this site is credible because it comes from a doctor who works as an

OBGYN.

“What Is Prenatal Care?” Planned Parenthood, 2018.

https://www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/pregnancy/prenatal-care
Accessed on 29 October 2018.

This source comes from Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood had everything you need

to know about pregnancy. How pregnancy is possible, and most importantly how to maintain a

healthy pregnancy. They also talk about each stage of pregnancy, and the symptoms you will
Brown 4

experience while you go through each stage. Pregnancy is divided is divided into three trimesters.

Each trimester is a little longer than 13 weeks. The first moth marks the beginning of the first

trimester. Typically, this is when you find out that you have a growing baby inside of your belly

due to a missed menstrual cycle or you have experienced a little morning sickness.

Planned Parenthood says that prenatal care is when you get checked out by your doctor,

nurse, or midwife throughout your entire pregnancy. It helps keeps your future baby and yourself

healthy. Prenatal care is very important, and vital. During checkups the doctor will monitor your

heart, your baby’s heart, and your baby’s development. Doctors are there to prevent any possible

problems that may come along but it is also up to the mother to maintain a healthy diet. You can

begin to get prenatal care as soon as you become pregnant. It is important to see a doctor before

you get pregnant, or before you try to get pregnant. You will be seen by your doctor every 4 to 6

weeks up until the 32nd week, then you will be seen every 2-3 weeks, and then when the time of

delivery gets closer you will be seen every week, until it is time for the birth of your newborn

baby.

This website was very helpful for me and helped me answer my fat question tremendously.

I am going to use this information towards my fat question and give more details on the article.

Brown, Janiece. Personal Interview. 31 Oct. 2018

I interviewed a friend because she has been pregnant three times, so she would know what

things to eat that are good for you and the things that are not so good for you to eat. She knows

about morning sickness and the different symptoms you will go through while being pregnant.
Brown 5

She told me that when you are pregnant you have to be cautious of what you eat and what you

drink. She told me to rule out fish completely, while your pregnant. Fish is high in mercury, and

can cause birth defects if you eat to much of it. She told me if you want to drink coffee you have

to drink decaf as well as with tea.

The reason why I interviewed her is because there is nothing better than finding someone

who went through what you are researching. The audience for this interview would be women

who are pregnant, and need help on maintaining a healthy diet for themselves and their unborn

child.

I will use this information to answer my fat question by using the information she gives

me. In the interview she told me that everyone is different and everyone has different symptoms,

it is important that I not only get her feedback but feedback from another credible source.
