What are the three biggest issues in your campaign?
Your number one issue, and why?
I believe the issue of urban renewal is the city's top priority. Edmonton is becoming a donut city
with a consistent push by residents to expand outward. Our core neighbourhoods are inundated
with crime, poverty and decaying infrastructure. As Mayor, I will fight these issues on three sides:
first, by reaching out to our at-risk youth so our future generations will be part of the solution and
not fall victim to our current problems; second, by putting forward an innovative strategy that will
drastically reduce homeless in my first term and outperform our current 10-year plan; third, by
putting forward a comprehensive and dynamic community policing strategy that fits within the
EPS's current mandate for proactive policing.

Number two issue, and why?

The way our city conducts business needs to change with respect to how we communicate with
our community leaders and builders. After several months on the campaign trail, there is a
consensus that city council does not listen to our city's key stakeholders. Our business
associations, community leagues, unions and student bodies do not feel like their needs and
wants are being heard. I will institutionalize a structure where key groups like the aforementioned
will have regularly scheduled meetings with Mayor and Council so that we may work together in
helping build a more prosperous Edmonton. A principle of leadership is to seek and accept
advice.

Number three issue, and why?

We need to focus on setting up our young for success. Any plans for the future would be futile
unless all of our young are given the opportunities to succeed. As Mayor, I will implement a
program called Lil' Eddies that will be a city-wide initiative which will act as a safety net, ensuring
all of our at-risk youth receive critical support to overcome their odds.
For post-secondary students, they will have an ally and an advocate in the Mayor's chair that will
speak to the issue that plague them. I will put forward a $5,000 rebate program that will provide
incentives to our grads to work and live in Edmonton.

Which should be a higher spending priority for council, LRT construction or road
construction, and why?
LRT construction. This really shouldn't be an either-or scenario but rapid LRT expansion is long
overdue, and should be a near the top of the list for Council. This prioritization is validated by
what I have heard from Edmontonians over my last four months on the campaign trail.

City council has turned down a motion to hold a non-binding plebiscite on keeping
the City Centre Airport as a general aviation facility. Should the new council
reopen the airport issue?
Yes. I will only reopen this issue if there is a substantial turnover in Council elects this Oct. 18. If
there is not a sufficient new group of councillors then this issue will be moot as all incumbent
councillors are entrenched in their positions one way or another.

Barack Obama - for his significance in being the most visible and publicized politician of this
generation. Further, I am inspired by his story of overcoming the odds and achieving his dream
despite being an overwhelming underdog. Sun Tzu - this is almost self-explanatory as I am a
member of the military. His teachings still have great relevance today to many aspects of life.
Chris Rock - to add some comedic flavour to the dinner, and further, he genuinely has a well-
informed opinion albeit with colourful explanations.
