PAPER GUIDELINES

1. EXAM ENROLMENT
In order to enroll for the exam and get the grade, you need to include the module in your Study Plan. To
enrol for the exam, you need to go on StudentiOnline > Exams -AlmaEsami and then choose our
module.

If you are not able to enrol for the exam now, don’t worry: the enrolment period will open a few weeks
before the first exam date/deadline.
2. PAPER DEADLINES, REQUIREMENTS, AND REGISTRATION
SUBMISSION AND DEADLINES
You will have to submit your paper in electronic form, sent by email to: italianculture@unibo.it.

The paper must be submitted by


- 3 MAY 2018, h 17:00 > if you need / want to get your grade by the 14 May 2018.
- 28 MAY 2018, h 17:00 > if you need / want to get your grade by the 14 June 2018.

NB1. All papers submitted after the first deadline will be only considered for the second deadline (and
therefore, your grade will be registered only on the 14th of June).
NB2. A late submission of your paper in the second deadline (28 May) will cause you to fail the exam.
Any extensions to the deadlines must be agreed in advance with the course tutor.
You will get a confirmation email from italianculture@unibo.it acknowledging your submission.
If you do not receive such email 24 hrs after submission, contact us immediately to make sure that your
submission was successful.

OFFICIAL REGISTRATION OF YOUR GRADE (OR: WHEN AND HOW YOU WILL KNOW
IF YOU PASS OR FAIL THE EXAM).

The 14th of May and 14th of June are the dates in which your grade will be registered in the official
records of Unibo. In the same day or the day after you will be able to see the grade on your Student
page at studenti.unibo.it.

The essay is assessed on a pass/fail basis. If you pass the exam, you will see your grade recorded as
“ID” which stands for “idoneo/idoneità”, which is the Italian for a “pass”.

3. PAPER GUIDELINES
TOPIC
You can choose any topic provided it is related to ITALIAN CULTURE and broadly refers to one of
the main themes offered during the semester: Birth of a Nation, Landscapes, Italy Before Italy, Past and
Present, Recent Trends. Within one of these broad themes, you are free to address a specific topic of
your choice.

CONTENT
You will write a RESEARCH PAPER. You are required to write an original research; however, you
can draw inspiration for your topic and paper from our lectures.
You need to include a Bibliography with a complete list of references used to prepare your paper,
quoted or referred to in your text.

REFERENCING AND PLAGIARISM


Writing your paper:
A) you must identify clearly the information, ideas or thoughts that you have obtained from a source,
and reference that source;
B) whenever you are using someone else's words or expressions, you are supposed to credit the original
author, and use inverted commas to mark the beginning and the end of the quoted passage (this of
course applies to translated passages as well).
Failure to follow these norms might result in an act of plagiarism.

FORMAT
The paper must count at least 25000 characters (space included – Bibliography included).
The font will be Times New Roman, 12 points; please use at least 1.5 line height.

Send the paper as a regular attachment (we will not accept a submission through OneDrive, Dropbox or
any other cloud service).
The file has to be DOC or DOCX format. We will not accept any other text or image format.

You don’t need to have Microsoft Word to save in DOC/DOCX format: it is also possible to save DOC
or DOCX files using free software suites such as Openoffice or LibreOffice.

FILE NAME FOR SUBMISSION


Name your file using this general rule:
Name – Surame – ID Number (matricola)
Ex. MARIO ROSSI 00000000 Recent trends
In the “subject” field of your email, write “PAPER May” (for the 3/14 May deadline) or PAPER June
(for the 28 May/14 June deadline) and your FULL NAME.
