1. INTRODUCTION

1.1. PURPOSE
The purpose of this protocol is to verify, validate, and document the capability of the
washer to meet the manufacturer’s specifications and the acceptance criteria of this
protocol.

1.2. SCOPE
The Installation and Operational Protocol (IQOQ) will be executed after the washer has
been physically installed, utility supplies have been connected, and washer start-up has
been performed.

The Installation Qualification (IQ) portion of this protocol will ensure that the washer has
been properly installed and connected to the appropriate utility supplies: water, drain,
exhaust, compressed air, steam, and electrical. In addition, pump rotation, access levels,
and machine configurations will be verified along with the documentation and
accessories provided with the washer.

The Operational Qualification (OQ) portion of this protocol will check the operating
parameters such as the chemical delivery, wash cycles, temperature, control sequences,
alarms, and interlocks to ensure that they conform to the required limits and ranges.

Performance qualification remains the sole responsibility of the customer.

1.3. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Personnel that are involved in the execution of this protocol should be properly trained
on the operation of the washer. In addition, they must be properly trained and qualified to
work on electrical/mechanical equipment when live voltage (up to 480VAC) is present.

Every time someone writes in this document, he or she should use a blue or black pen.
The use of pencil or correction fluid is forbidden.

In this document, every time a choice is possible, the correct answer should be checked.

N/A means Not Applicable.

Any text that needs to be corrected should be crossed out with a single line, initialed,
and dated.

If a mistake is made, place a single line through the entry, write the correct information,
initial, and date the entry.

If a test sheet is not applicable to the washer model under test, the test sheet should be
lined through, initialed, and dated.
Installation and Operational Qualification LUS1302 Ver. E
of a 910LX Glassware Washer Page 5 of 78

If a washer is fitted with a printer, the printouts generated during the execution of the
protocol should be marked with the applicable test sheet name, affixed to blank sheets
of paper, and attached to the Appendix.

Any non conformity in this protocol must be noted in the Non Conformity Log. A Non
Conformity Form should be filled out and attached to the Appendix. The Non Conformity
Form contains sections that describe the problem and specify a corrective action. If the
Non Conformity does not affect additional tests, the execution of the protocol should
continue. If a retest is required after correction of the non conformity, a blank copy of the
applicable test sheet should be generated and then executed. The retest sheet should
be placed in the Appendix with the applicable Non Conformity Form.

When a test indicates that a wire(s) should be disconnected or connected on the

washer, the washer should be turned off and the customer’s electrical disconnect for the
washer should be in the off position.

The person performing each test should sign and date in the “Performed by:” section of
the test sheet.

The customer has the responsibility of reviewing the executed tests. The person who
reviews the completed document should sign and date in the “Reviewed by:” section of
each test sheet.

A test sheet should not be performed and reviewed by the same person.

Every test sheet contains the following elements:

Purpose: describes the reason for the test.

Procedure: describes how to perform the test.

Acceptance Criteria: describes the criteria to be met for a successful test.

Conform: if the test is successful, the conform box is checked.

Non Conform: if the test fails, the non conform box is checked and an entry is
made in the Non Conformity Log. In addition, a Non Conformity form is filled out
and placed in the appendix.

Comments: a section provided to write information about the test procedure or

test results.

Performed by: a section that is signed and dated by the person who executes
the test.

Reviewed by: a section that is signed and dated by the customer after reviewing
the completed test.

2. FUNCTIONING PRINCIPLE DESCRIPTION

Success of washing is the result of four different principles of washing that are inter related:

Mechanical: the power of the pump and the water distribution through washer.
Thermal: by selecting an appropriate washing temperature.
Chemical: by using effective detergents, acids or other additives.
Time: by selecting an appropriate exposure time.

NOTE: washing protocols have to be adapted to the level of contamination on the items that
need to be washed.

The washing principle consists of spraying water inside and outside the items that need to be
washed.

2.1. THE COMPONENTS AND THEIR FUNCTION

Main Board:
Microprocessor based electronic board that monitors and controls the washer through
the use of input sensors and output devices.

Water Inlet Valves:

Electric valves, equipped on the lower back of the washer, are used to fill the washbasin.

Pressurestats:
Pneumatic pressure switches are used to indicate the water level in the basin to the
main board.

Recycling Pump:
A centrifugal pump is used to circulate the water in the washbasin. It draws water from
the basin bottom and pumps it through the distribution column, racks, injectors, and
spray arms.

Distribution Column:
The distribution column consists of piping and fittings that directs the water to the racks
and spray arms. Ports located on the back of the wash chamber supply water to the
individual racks.

Dosing Pumps:
Peristaltic pumps that draw detergent, acid, or additives from their containers and
delivers it inside the washbasin.

Water Heaters:
For washers that are electrically heated, electric heater elements, located in the bottom
of the basin, heat the water to the desired set point during the wash cycle.
Installation and Operational Qualification LUS1302 Ver. E
of a 910LX Glassware Washer Page 7 of 78

Steam Coil:
For washers that are steam heated, a steam coil exchanger, located in the bottom of the
basin, is used to heat the water to the desired set point during the wash cycle.

Water Temperature Probe:

The water temperature probe, located in the basin, signals the water temperature inside
the wash chamber to the main board.

Emptying Pump/Valve:
A pump or pneumatic valve is equipped on the washer to remove water from the basin
and direct it to the customer-supplied drain connection.

Drying Blower:
Blower pushes air through the drying heater and into the wash chamber during the
drying sequence.

Drying Heater:
Electric heater element heats the air generated by the blower during the drying
sequence.

Drying Thermostat:
The drying thermostat sensor, located downstream of the drying heater, allows for
control of the air temperature.

Drying Valve:
A check valve, located on the distribution column, prevents water from reaching the
drying heater and blower.

A wash cycle can contain some or all of the following sequences depending on operator
programming:

 Prewash with or without detergent

 Wash with or without detergent
 Running water rinse
 Acid rinse with or without acid
 Cold Demin. rinse
 Hot Demi. rinse
 Drying
 Cooling Down

The baskets and racks must be selected based on the type of items to be cleaned.
