Affidavit of Probable Cause
BRODY JAY WINKLER
Date of Birth: 07/28/1994
Arrestee
On 11/12/2018 13:45 the defendant was arrested for the offense(s) of:
I believe there is probable cause to charge the defendant with these charges because:
On 11/12/18, at approximately 1305 hours, UPD officers from the Taylorsville Precinct responded to a report of a
residential burglary in progress at 6040 S. Canal Street. I arrive on scene with other officers and saw a tan or
gold colored Cadillac sedan with several subject standing around it. Officers attempted a felony high risk stop on
the vehicle and it fled from officers. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as, Brody Winkler, attempted to
strike two of the officers on the stop, hitting one of the marked UPD police vehicles. I was further south of the
stop attempting to stop a male walking away from the scene. I heard and saw the collision and attempted to
deploy stop sticks, a tire deflation device, and Winkler steered the vehicle towards me and my vehicle. I moved
and as the suspect vehicle passed I followed a UPD officer who was now in pursuit of Winkler in the Cadillac.
Winkler drove at high speeds and made multiple violation while fleeing from officers. Winkler did not yield his
vehicle while two UPD marked vehicle had emergency overhead light and sirens engaged. Winkler eventually
lost control of the vehicle and collided with a fence and came to a stop. Winkler then fled on foot while officers
gave commands for him to stop, but he continued. Winkler was taken into custody after a brief search of the
area. He was transported to the Salt Lake County jail and booked into custody for the above listed charges.
I declare under penalty of perjury and under the laws of the State of Utah that the foregoing is true and correct.
