OVERVIEW

Professional:
I have over fourteen years of Information Technology management experience. I have extensive
experience with a variety of skills and areas including strategic management, LEAN, facilitating
communication between doctors/nurses, executives, and technologists, network infrastructure design,
application life cycle management, IT security, healthcare EMR/HCIS systems, hospital / clinic process
and procedures, and the management of individuals that share these skills. I have years of experience
leading teams that administrate data center, infrastructure, application development, and application
support. I have extensive management and team lead experience. I have been an organizational leader,
formed new departments within a large organization, and created an excellent an excelling team of
individuals at both IBM and the Austin Medical Center - Mayo Health System. My previous skill included
consulting services with IBM Software Group. My experience with IBM allowed me to do consulting for
major fortune 500 companies.

Personal:
I am happily married and have 3 young children, ages 7, 5, and 3. At the age of 21 I also became
guardian of three of my siblings. My siblings were 16, 14, and 12 at the time. I take part in several Relay
for Life activities and other cancer research fund raising events. I enjoy many sports and also host a
health care related program on a PBS affiliate. I am also a member of the FBI's Infragard program. This
is a civilian program put together by the FBI in support of homeland defense.

Recognition:
I have been recognized for my knowledge in the field by my peers and have had articles published
regarding my department’s work in the “Mayo Health System Inside” magazine. In 2007 & 2010, I was
invited to speak at the “Medical Education Convention Aotorrea” in Dunedin, New Zealand regarding my
knowledge of technology in a health care environment. Additionally, I have been nationally ranked in
2010 as the #2 CIO/CTO in Health Care Social Media (#1 is the CIO of Harvard Medical) in the United
States by Horizon's Watching.
Innovation:
I have a significant personal interest in health care innovation. I am the E-Health lead for the only Mayo
Clinic entity to become a certified Patient Centered Medical Home. I have engaged in several E-Health
experiments including Social Media and remote clinical monitoring. I have three "Original Invention
Disclosures" with Mayo Clinic (Anti-Coagulation Clinic operational tool set, Virtual Clinic Process
Improvement System, and Core Hospital / Clinic Business Analytics System). I also am co-creator on
several patents at IBM. While focusing on innovation and sustainability within our health care
organization, I Co-Chaired a new committee at Austin Medical Center called "Sustaining Our Mission".
This committee is responsible for trimming financial waste throughout the medical center. Our committee
saved $548,501 towards the organizational NOI in the first year.

EXPERIENCE:

Austin Medical Center – Mayo Clinic Health System Nov. 2004 - current
Chief Technology Offier / Director of Information Technology

I am currently employed at the Austin Medical Center (AMC), a member of the Mayo Clinic Health
Systems. I started my career at AMC as Manager of Network Services. I was quickly promoted to
Director of IT, and later to interim Chief Technology Officer. I have served over AMC and as interim CTO
over our sister site, Albert Lea Medical Center. I am responsible for strategic initiatives, interacting with
the Board of Directors, participating or chairing numerous Mayo Clinic & AMC committees, and providing
leadership to clinical and administrative executives.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


• Project Manager of $4.8 Million dollar EMR implementations (Meditech and Cerner)
• Ensure high level of support of all users (Executive, Clinical, and Support).
• Provide future strategies and comprehensive planning for upcoming projects and strategic goals
of the organization.
• Creation and Management of a new bottom-up development system that encompasses the
needs and priorities of the front line customers.
• Interface between clinical, financial, and business leaders to gather technology needs
• Ensure process and procedure enhancements and efficiencies are considered before
technology implementations occur
• Creation and Management of a new AMC centric Service Center and knowledge management
system
• Creation and Management of a new Data Center to house AMC servers
• Creation and Management of a fully redundant network that allows for fail-over and maintenance
without affecting any user productivity.
• Ensure all data transmissions comply with HIPAA and ICE (Mayo Internal Control Evaluation)
standards.
• Ensure integrity and reliability of network systems for EMR (Meditech, Cerner, LastWord)
systems, along with multiple other applications that are critical to the organization and to patient
safety.
• Create standards and policies for Network, Help Desk, and Programmer teams.
• Ensure the creation of automation and efficiency applications via Programmer teams (Automated
Hardware/Software inventory tools, Clinical Rounding Reports, Financial automation) to
accomplish financial and operational savings.
• Serve on several committees with the Mayo Foundation, Mayo Health Systems, and AMC
(Meditech Technical Advisory Committee, Quality and Safety committee, Technology
Committee, Mayo Health System IT Council, etc).
• Research new options and technologies for patient safety, cost savings, and provider efficiency.
• Responsible for business continuation planning, disaster recovery planning, and fail over/
redundancy planning.

IBM / Ciber , Rochester, MN 5 years

WebSphere Education Group


I was employed as a contractor at the IBM Rochester location. I was the team lead responsible for
network and system security, technical advisement, server support, and insuring customer service for IBM
staff and IBM business partners in relation to the WebSphere Technology and Training group (Software
Group). This group is responsible for Beta education for IBM’s premier products and e-business tools.

Responsibilities included, but were not limited to:


• Lead position (directing 11 staff) Network and Security Administrator for approx. 250 Windows
2000 Servers. I was in charge of security compliance, networking, uptime, and procedures. My
server farm had never had a security violation nor had it ever been penetrated by hackers. My
network had over 99.99% uptime since I joined the team as Network and Security Administrator.
• Ensure ITCS desktop and server security compliance at the Director level. I was responsible for
ensuring proper IBM ITCS compliance for approximately 3,000 systems.
• Citrix remote classroom administrator. I setup and streamlined a 180 server Citrix environment
to deliver extensive training courses to remote students.
• Customer engagements at; Toronto Canada, Austin TX, Raleigh NC, Pittsburgh PA, London
England, Lahulpe Holland, and Slovenia.
• Content creator and manager of internal WebSphereTNT.rchland.ibm.com web site. This
included layouts, coding, and concept.
• Responsible for creation of VMWare GSX, VMWare Workstation, and MS Virtual PC Images and
implementation.
• Improvement of processes and procedures for Education’s servers, both local and remote.
• Provided consulting knowledge and expertise in regard to hardware and software upgrades.
• AIX, Solaris, and Windows NT/2000/2003 Server administration.
• Prepare information for education courses.
• Lead and manage E-meeting configurations and courses, including e-labs.
• Test, revise, and mediate remote learning sessions.

Dairyland Power Cooperative, LaCrosse, WI 2 years

Help Desk Coordinator


I was responsible for insuring customer support via the Information Technology Help Desk, which I
created and managed. This help desk supports approximately 700 individuals at Dairyland Power and its
constituents.

Responsibilities included:
• Creation and development of a Computer Service Help Desk for Dairyland Power Cooperative.
• Supervision duties and standard hiring duties in regards to Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 support
personnel (included 8 staff).
• Creation of processes and functioning support techniques.
• Lotus Notes R5 administration and support.
• Windows NT administration, support, and security.
• Novell NetWare administration and support, including ZenWorks 2 Remote Administration.
• Responsible for computer service, upgrades, overseeing of and performing of repairs,
performing UserID audits and ensuring password compliance.
