CFC Youth for Christ YFC Year 2: PARENTS’ HONORING NIGHT (2009 EDITION) 2
CHAPTER 1
THE FAMILY‐FOCUSED ACTIVITIES AND THE PARENTS
HONORING NIGHT
A. RATIONALE
CFC Youth for Christ (YFC) believes in the role of the family, most particularly the
parents, in the growth and formation of their children. Although YFC creates a support
group for young people ages 13‐21 in a stage of their life where they are forming their
own identity and building their own dreams, we cannot discount the fact that YFC
cannot do these alone. In fact, YFC provides a supplement to the kind of environment
the youth experiences in his/her home.
Through the years, YFC saw the need to reinforce the importance of the family in
molding the young. YFC then, seeks to bring the YFC members back to their family and
acknowledge more strongly that the molding of family takes precedence in all other
support groups for the young. YFC also seeks neither to alienate nor to replace the
family. Hence, YFC introduces the Family‐Focused Activities, one of which is the
Parents’ Honoring Night.
B. OVERVIEW OF THE FAMILY‐FOCUSED ACTIVITY
The Family‐Focused Activities were envisioned because of the need to nourish
the membership level by strengthening family relationships.
The objectives of the Family‐Focused Activities are as follows:
1. To allow the young to realize and claim God’s plan for their present and
future family.
2. To teach the young to bring Christ to their family.
3. To strengthen the family relationship.
4. To increase in the young the love and value for siblings.
5. To encourage non‐CFC Parents to love and value community.
6. To create an alternative environment for family fellowship.
The following are the different Family‐Focused Activities; each will happen every
year within the 3‐Year Pastoral Formation Track of YFC members:
Year 1: Family Culture
Year 2: Parent’s Honoring Night
Year 3: Best Weekend (Mother‐Daughter Camp and Father‐Son Camp)
CFC Youth for Christ YFC Year 2: PARENTS’ HONORING NIGHT (2009 EDITION) 3
C. OVERVIEW OF THE PARENTS’ HONORING NIGHT
The Parents Honoring Night is a 5‐hour, night activity, conducted on a cluster
level for the Community Based Program and sector level for High School and Campus
Based programs.
The Parents’ Honoring Night is a gathering of families who belong to a greater
family in CFC and YFC. It is night of honoring God, our parents and this community. The
attendees of the activities are YFC members in their second year, their parents and
Couple Coordinators. The CFC leaders in the cluster must be invited.
D. OBJECTIVES
In a YFC member’s second year in YFC, the Parent’s Honoring Night aims to:
1. Level up the YFC’s appreciation of his/her family through the culture of appreciating
and honoring.
2. Provide a venue for the YFC members, their parents, the YFC Couple Coordinators
and the CFC to interact and build relationship and support.
3. Bring out from the parents, the CFC, and the members of the other ministries, the
appreciation of YFC and the work of CFC in bringing families closer to each other.

CHAPTER 2
GUIDELINES IN CODUCTING THE PARENTS HONORING NIGHT
A. PREPARING THE PARENTS HONORING NIGHT
A large part of the success of the Parents’ Honoring Night lies on the attendance
of the parents to be honored. This also means that the Parents’ Honoring Night is a
partnership with the CFC Cluster. There are two key groups of people whom the YFC
Cluster Couple Coordinator and the YFC Cluster Head need to talk to and seek to get
involved with in the preparation of the Parents’ Honoring Night. They are the CFC
Cluster and the Parents of the YFCs, especially those already active in the cluster.
ROLES OF THE YFC CLUSTER COUPLE COORDINATOR
1. Share the vision on the activity with the members of the CFC Cluster. Allow them
to be excited as well and see that this is about their children in YFC. If they have
no children, allow them to see that this is about the future of CFC and for them
to realize that this is their part in taking care of YFCs.
2. Plan the activity with the CFC Cluster Head. This will ensure a greater
participation of the whole Cluster.
3. Talk with them how the CFC can be best invited to attend the activity.
4. Discuss with them how the CFC Cluster Household can get involved in the event;
assign them to a specific committee together with a YFC counterpart.
5. Discuss also the YFC Activities for the next six months. This is an opportunity to
involve the CFC leaders in the future activities of their children in YFC.
6. After the activity, the Cluster Couple Coordinator’s role is also to invite the
parents of participants whose parents are not yet in CFC to attend future or on‐
going CLP’s
CFC CLUSTER
1. Promote the activity first to the CFC Cluster Household then to the rest of the
Cluster through household and chapter assembly. Share with them the vision of
the Parents Honoring Night.
2. Invite them personally. The CFC unit heads will be the point person in terms of
promoting the event to the CFC parents.
3. Get the names of the possible participants and database.
YFC’s WHOSE PARENTS ARE ACTIVE IN THE CFC CHAPTER
1. Inspire YFCs whose parents are active in CFC.
2. Allow them to realize the privilege of living in the fulfillment of the vision of CFC.
CFC Youth for Christ YFC Year 2: PARENTS’ HONORING NIGHT (2009 EDITION) 5
STEP BY STEP ACTIVITY GUIDELINES
1. Set a meeting with the CFC Cluster Head to plan the Parents’ Honoring Night.
2. Finalize date and venue with them.
3. Delegate some assignments with them and partner with YFCs. Committee heads
can be distributed among CFC Chapter Heads. They will be assigned together
with YFC Chapter Heads. The committees are as follows:
a. Registration/Secretariat/Promotions – takes care of informing everyone,
facilitates welcoming of participants, makes sure that there is food for
everyone
b. Documentation – makes sure that the event is documented (video and
pictures)
c. Logistics – physical set up, venue, sound system
d. Program/PFO – assignment of worship leaders and emcees
e. KFC Youth Facilitators (KFC Ate and Kuya) – for announcement of KFC
activities and help in taking care of children of CFC with KFC age.
f. Liturgy and Music Ministry – collaboration of CFC and YFC in the chapter
4. Announce in CFC Chapter Assemblies. Personally invite CFC Members.
5. Identify and talk to YFCs whose parents are active in CFC to invite their parents.
6. Discuss the parents support group (PSG) program with the CFC Cluster Head so
that they can assign CFC households as PSG.
B. THINGS TO CONSIDER
1. Find a suitable venue for the activity depending on the needs of the program (ex.
BBQ, beach party, etc.). A chapel with a conference room area can also be a suitable
venue for the activity.
2. Prepare the Eucharistic Celebration. (This can also be done on Saturday followed by
the anticipated mass)
3. Decide on the food for dinner (Can be catered or Potluck)
4. Identify the person/s in‐charge. (Team Leaders and Coordinators In‐charge)
5. Send out invitations to all parents and get their confirmation.
6. Since, it is the Cluster Couple Coordinators who knows almost everyone who will be
attending the event, it is suggested that they would be the emcees of the event
together with a YFC leader. (Preferably a family)
7. YFCs will prepare presentations based on their own talent to be dedicated to their
parents. (E.g. Dance, Song number, Role Play/ Skit, etc.)
8. A presentation of KFC activities will be inserted during or after the presentation of
talents. This can be done by KFC Youth Facilitators. This is to invite everyone to bring
their younger siblings in this ministry.
9. The parents support group program can be done after the KFC presentation. The
Parents Support Group Program is a program to get the parents involved in making
sure that their children are attending their household meeting. Parents will be
CFC Youth for Christ YFC Year 2: PARENTS’ HONORING NIGHT (2009 EDITION) 6
assigned to monitor a YFC household meeting, making sure that they have the
means to go to a household, follow them up if they are not attending and inform the
parents of the members of the household about the household and upcoming
activities.
10. YFCs are asked to prepare candles for the “Candle‐lighting” activity. This is a
symbolic ceremony of honoring their parents. The YFCs represent themselves as the
candle and the parents as the ones who started the flame. This also symbolizes that
the parents are the source of light and without them the candles are useless.
11. YFCs are asked to prepare something special as a gift/ token to their parents (ex.
Poem, handmade‐gift, song composition, etc.), and a song to serenade the parents.

COUPLE COORDINATOR’S EXHORTATION
Note: The Couple Coordinator can use the script below in preparing for his own exhortation.
Speaker: YFC Cluster Couple Coordinator
Tonight we honor God, you – parents and this community.
We honor God because He loves us so much. We honor Him because He made everything
possible. He made this night possible for all of us to be here. He made it possible for all of us to
meet great parents like you. He made it possible for all of us to be called to take care of young
through our children and YFC.
We honor all of you parents. It is your decision to allow our young ones to be here this evening.
We honor you for seeking out the best for your children, for sacrificing every little thing just to
make sure that they will have a great tomorrow. We honor you for allowing us to take care of
your children. It has been a privilege and a joy taking care of them. We honor you for
supporting us, couple coordinators because your support allows us to support our children. We
assure you that your investment in YFC will never be wasted. Your time, talent and treasure
have helped us bring the best in the young through evangelization, our work with the poor and
our advocacy of 100% Free.
As co‐pastors of your children, we want you to journey with us as we journey with them. We
want you to know the activities that your children will be attending for the whole year.
[Powerpoint/Video of YFC Activities will be shown‐See attached AVP descriptions]
Your children will be approaching you and giving you candles. You will light the candle you are
holding from our main candle in the center of this venue. You will be the one lighting your
children’s candle. As we do this, we remember that all our light comes from one source – Jesus
Christ. The light that your children gets from you is a recognition that you are the one that
started it all, that your children owe a large part of their lives to you.
Now, we call on your children who have prepared something to honor all of you and show you
their love for you.
[This is the part where YFCs will have the serenade (song – e.g. Thanks to You, Wind beneath
My Wings or songs that promote love and appreciation for family), the giving of roses, their
special gift.]
We honor this community because this has allowed all of us to be part of a bigger family. We
know that this community will never be perfect but what is important is that we are here for
CFC Youth for Christ YFC Year 2: PARENTS’ HONORING NIGHT (2009 EDITION) 10
each other and we will always be helping each other to be better parents and together, raise
our children and prepare them for the future.
[Pray‐Over of Parents by their children, Pray Over of Families by the Couple Coordinator]
This night is truly a great gift from the Lord. We realized that our sacrifices are being blessed by
the Lord. This night, we know how much love we have given each other because of His unfailing
love for us.
[Ends with a closing song or a praisefest]
SAMPLE PRAYERS FOR PRAY‐OVER
PRAY OVER OF PARENTS BY CHILDREN
Lord, we praise and thank you for the gift of our parents. Thank you for giving them to us as our
protector and guide. Thank for making us feel Your love through them, in their own special way.
We pray that you will continue to bless them, continue to provide for them, continue to keep
them safe, and continue to love them. Heal our parents of their problems and personal
struggles and brokenness, instead may you let them live each day happy, contented and at
peace with You. We offer to you our parents. May you bring them closer to you each day, and
may you always love them. Amen.
PRAY OVER OF FAMILIES BY COUPLE COORDINATOR
Lord, Mighty God and the creator of all things, we consecrate to you these families. Bring them
to your loving fold. May love and peace reign in their homes, and may they be quick to love and
easy to forgive. But in times, Lord, that they will go through a difficult time, may their only
choice be to go to You for strength and deliverance. May You be their companion both in times
of joy and in times of grief.
Mighty Father, draw these families to Your love and may they live their lives pleasing to you
every day; provide for their daily needs, both material and spiritual; be their shelter and
protector. Lord, bless them with all the good things and at the same time help them to trust
only to Your Most Holy will. Amen.
