1 INTRODUCTION

1.1 GENERALLY

Ac c or C ab l i ng S ys t em (ACS) is the generic name of the data and telecom cabling in the Accor Group's
hotels.

It is a structured multi-purpose voice – data – images cabling system (including TV).

1.2 REFERENCES AND CONSTRAINTS

The specifications for the ACS are based on international standards, in particular:

• TIA / EIA -568-B (Commercial Building Telecommunications Cabling Standard)

• ISO / IEC IS 11801 (Generic Cabling for Customer Premises)
• EN 50173-1 (Information Technology Generic Cabling Systems)

In addition the following parameters must be taken into account/

• Technologies currently in use worldwide,

• Existence of durable and upgradeable products meeting the present specification,
• Ease of use and of management,
• Installation and maintenance costs.

1.3 WARNING

ACS is a generic cabling system.

Each project shall be subject to a specific technical design, taking into account, especially, the particular
features of the establishment, and, in the case of a new building (or a major refurbishment), the requirements
set out in the "project brief" document prepared under instructions from ACCOR

Naturally, it is essential, when selecting a product, to take into account statutory requirements, professional
advice and the possibility of local supplies.

3.6 TOPOLOGY AND ARCHITECTURE:

The sizing of the cabling, and also its topology, shall be subject to a specific study for each project.

ACC_WE_DB3513_CABLING_SYSTEM_ACS 2.1 Oct 08 8 / 15

3.6.1 CABLING:

Solution 1: distance from RJ 45 to Main PP < 90m

• Category 5e cabling (minimum)

• Cables for the bedrooms will run directly from the RJ45 sockets to the Main PP, without any intermediary
connection point.

Solution 2-Cu (distances from RJ to sub PP < 90m and from sub PP to Main PP < 90m)

• Category 5 25-pair cabling (use: telephony)

− Capacity of cables connecting a sub PP to the Main PP will be equal to the total number of all
RJ45 used for telephony (guestrooms + possible other rooms) plus spare (5% for 2 stars
hotels, 10% for 3 stars and 15% for 4 or 5 stars)
− Example: sub PP feeding 20 bedrooms 3 stars with 2 tel RJ 45 per room = 160 pairs + 24
(15%) = 184 pairs
Number of 25-pair cables: 184 / 25 = 7.36 i.e. 8 cables 25-pair each

This capacity will meet the requirements

• for the bedrooms and possible additional
− phones in elevator lobbies (in 3 stars hotels and above),
− phones for the staff (cordless …).

• Category 5e cabling (use: data)

− 4 Nb. 4-pair cables

Solution 2-Fo: (distances from RJ to sub PP < 90m and from sub PP to Main PP > 90m)

• Category 5 25-pair cabling (use: telephony)

− Capacity : same as above
• Fibre optic cabling (use: data)
− One optical fibre for connection from the sub PP to the Main PP

3.7 SUB PATCH PANEL (SUB PP)

• Locations: the sub PP shall be located either on the guestroom floors or in a technical cupboard(s) (for
ex located at the bottom of the technical shafts).
• Composition: they consist of RJ45 patch panel, 1 “U” size with 24 or 48 female sockets, each will be
clearly labelled.
• Installation: depending on its location, the sub PP will be:
− Wall mounted or
− 19” Batirack mounted
The telephone connections and computer connections shall use “Patch cords” (4 pairs Cat5e cable + RJ45
plugs)
• Identification labels shall be provided, using the following colour codes:

BLUE 4-pair cables in the horizontal distribution

WHITE Backbone distribution cables
VIOLET Resource connections (PBX, hubs, switches, etc.)
GREEN Telecom operator inlets
GREY Ring-main cables
YELLOW Sundries (forming of passive buses, shunts, etc.)

• The sub PP may have a fibre optic connection drawer (part of the backbone cabling) in case of solution
“2-Fo”.

ACC_WE_DB3513_CABLING_SYSTEM_ACS 2.1 Oct 08 9 / 15

• Sub Patch Panel rooms:
− See diagram 1 at the end of this document,
− Size: to suit the size of the Sub PP (typically 3 to 4 m²),
− "anti-static" and "dust-proof" floor and wall finishes ,
− Electrical supply: a specific supply protected with a dedicated circuit breaker (power 500 VA
approx.), 5 socket outlets to supply active components (hub, switch, etc.), an "on-line" inverter
(minimum autonomy 15 mins) if active components are used (or connection to a main central
invertor),
− Appropriate lighting,
− Ventilation: ambient temperature shall be maintained between 10° C and 35° C, humidity must
remain below 80%,
− Radiation: equipment located in the room will comply with EMC standards (Electro-Magnetic
Compatibility),

3.8 MAIN PATCH PANEL (IN COMPUTER ROOM)

• Location: the Main PP will be located in the Computer and Telecoms Room (in which the PBX is to be
installed)
• Composition:
− Similar to Sub PP
• Installation: depending on its location, the sub PP will be:
− Wall mounted or
− 19” Batirack mounted
The telephone connections and computer connections shall use “Patch cords” (4 pairs Cat5e cable + RJ45
plugs
• Switching
− The telephone connections and computer connections (connections to a hub, switch, etc.) will
use "RJ45" cables.
• Labelling:
− Similar to Sub PP

• Main PP room:
− See diagram 2 at the end of this document
Contains:
− The voice telecoms equipment (PABX and CMS)
− The main cross-connect (MC)
− The Network and Servers panel (PMS)

The general characteristics of this room shall be as follows:

− It shall be dedicated to IT, Telecom, TV equipment,
− Access to the room shall be controlled,
− Its size shall be in the order of 16 to 25 m2 (depending on hotel type and size),
− The floor and wall finishes shall be anti-static and dust-proof,
− There shall be no water or drain pipes passing through. In the exceptional case where it is
really not possible to organise differently, pipes to be installed in gutters.

In addition:
− Lighting: shall be of the "incandescent" type,
− Ventilation and air conditioning: Ambient temperature shall be maintained between 20°C and
25°C, temperature variation will not exceed 10°C/ho ur, humidity must remain below 80%
