Theses/Dissertation One:

1. Who is author? Ahmed, Mohamed Ahmed Shaker

2. What is the name of the theses/dissertation? Essays in behavioral finance and
investments
3. What is the year of the theses/dissertation? 2017
4. What institution did the author go to? Brunel University
5. What was the purpose of the study? This thesis is an attempt to bridge some
research gaps in the area of behavioural finance and investment through adopting the
three essays scheme of PhD dissertations
6. What was the conclusion of the study? Therefore, our findings can be generalized to
developed markets. However, the uncertain applicability of our thesis to emerging
markets can be considered as another of its limitations because the emerging markets
are characterized by unique features and require empirical evidence before our
findings can be generalize to.
7. Why would this particular study be important in your field? It helps to better
understand why we do the things we do as far as finance and investments go.
8. Pretend that you want to do a similar study to this one. What would you do
different? Why? If I were to do a study similar to this one of the main things I would
try to different is, make it more interesting. This thesis was very well written, but it
was also easy to lose track of. I believe adding more real-world situations would help
keep the reader more involved in the article. Obviously, this is easier said than done,
but I feel like switching up the wording and formation of the thesis would help keep
the reader in it without losing focus of the point I would be trying to get across.

Theses/Dissertation Two:

1. Who is the professor that you have taken a class with? or a professor that you are
currently taking a class with? Dr. Jennifer Gephart
2. What year did he/she write their dissertation? 2010
3. What is the name of the dissertation?
Nonconscious goal activation and unethical behavior: Examining the effect of status
threat cues on over-reporting performance
4. What institution did the professor go to when he/she published their dissertation?
The Pennsylvania State University
5. Skip to the end of the dissertation. What was the conclusion of the study? In this
dissertation, I attempted to extend research in two areas that have seen little
attention in behavioral ethics – nonconscious goal activation and status threat. In
particular, I argued that via nonconscious goal activation, subtle cues in our
environment can signal status threat and trigger the goal to protect one’s status. With
this goal operating, I hypothesized that individuals will be more likely to engage in
unethical behavior as a means to protect their status. I also hypothesized that
individual differences related to attention to status cues – such as selfmonitoring and
narcissism – might strengthen the relationship between status threat and unethical
behavior. Two pilot studies and two main studies did not provide support for the
hypotheses. Despite null results, however, the area remains ripe with opportunities
for future research.
