SWORD OF THE SPIRIT

...Which is the Word of God. The Greek word is “rhema.”

The Soldier & His Weapons:
• Rhema is a word or message from God about your life or a specific situation you’re going through -
A prophetic promise that is uniquely yours.
• The Holy Spirit gives us “rhema” words which we can use to stand against the enemy’s spiritual,
physical, emotional and mental attacks.

I Tim 1:18 (NIV) “Timothy, my son, I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once
made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well…”
1. The rhema word refers to a portion of scripture that “speaks” to you.
2. Then speak God’s Word to the enemy.

Principle: When it comes to sexual bondage, trying harder does not work.
• It is only by the grace of God that and trying NOT to control your life will enable you to walk in
health and wholeness.
• Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”
• 2 Corinthians 12:8-9 “Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart
from me. And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in
weakness.’”
• To deal with sexual bondage, you have to get God’s word deep down into your soul (not just your
mind) so that you can be set free.
• Psalm 119:10-11 “With my whole heart I have sought you; Oh, let me not wander from your
commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

James Reeves: “When men struggle for sexual purity together, then they have the benefit of the truth that
God has revealed to each one that is in that group.”

Consistent time with God in the word is crucial.

1. Put on the armor of God
2. [Confession]
3. Ask for a fresh refilling of the Holy spirit

TOOLS TO CONQUER
• Listen to the Holy Spirit while you are at work

SUMMARY POINTS
• In John 16:13, Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of Truth who will guide us into all truth.
• The Holy Spirit is our mentor.
• Acts 1:8 “But, you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my
witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the Earth.”

LEAVING A LEGACY
When you die, will you have a title or will you have a testimony?
Three things men tend to want…
1. Success
2. Respect
3. Reproduction
a. What a man does in life becomes history but,
b. What he puts in motion becomes his legacy

THE SCIENCE OF GENERATIONAL CURSES

Science has learned that the choices we make in life will alter how our genes are expressed. Science is
now confirming scripture.
• Epigenetic Modification: Instructions sitting above the genome telling the genes how to express
themselves which are changed based on experience
• Our choices can alter our genes by telling which genes to turn on and which genes to turn off.
• While the DNA does not change, the expression of it does.
• It will not happen with one exposure to pornography.
• It is the repetitive exposure to pornography that will cause this type of gene expression to happen.
o You alter the pleasure circuits
o You alter the inhibitory feedback with would tell you not to do this
o Result: changes your brain function
• Our Kids:
o We not only pass along our gene sequence to our kids…
o We pass along the gene instruction 2 and 3 generations down making them more
vulnerable to addictions
• Good news:
o Conversely, if we have victories, a bad gene can be turned off
o AND, our children (even if they inherit that bad gene) can inherit the mechanism to turn that
bad gene off
o We can pass along good things as well as bad
• The Bible is more scientifically accurate than Charles Darwin.

This battle is not just for yourself. It is for your children and your grandchildren. This is not just your body
and your consequences. You are fighting for the very lineage that God gave you.

SUMMARY POINTS
• Science now confirms scripture. You will pass your addiction to your third and fourth generation
through epigenetic modification.
• Numbers 14:18 “The Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet
He does not leave the guilty unpunished; He punishes the children for the sin of the parents to the
third and fourth generation.”
• Your legacy depends on the choices you make today.
