Introduction

As any foreign language students, my decision to enrol in LMD program as an


English language learner pave the way for me to experience being a trainee teacher.
And the experience to reflect on my first day as a trainee teacher is truly helpful to
retrieve what happen at the time. Firstly, I have to mention that teaching English as
a foreign language is entirely a new world of practice. Having the chance to be a
trainee teacher is different from learning theoretical ideas of how to be a real
teacher. I have discovered that even the simplest things on this earth could be turned
into something amazing if we put enough creativity and effort into working on
them.

My first day was somehow bittersweet experience. I was alarmed by this, as I


expected from the students to pay more attention to me than the lesson. However,
when I seated in the chair and started following the teacher, I felt engaged with the
class and the students shift their eyes on me. It was a total relief for me because I
did not want to make the teacher concerned by confronting me in that stressful
atmosphere. However, the opportunity to hear students calling me “Teacher” killed
my doubt about being a teacher. The level of my confidence to be part of the
learning sector increase more than ever. I have a belief that the rules will change
one day, and I will be an English teacher. I will make this a goal for my learning

The classroom was adequately managed. The class was well organised, and the
students seat side by side. The whiteboard and the marker were the essential
materials used. Also, students were wearing their school uniform. The teacher was
in front of the class trying to start the planned lesson.

As soon as the teacher started the lesson, I found it incredibly challenging. I lost
control in the first few minutes. After a while, I put myself together, and I started
my observation. The primary process I used was notetaking. It was a suitable
process as I ensured that I would be able to list carefully every information; relevant
or not. This practice in notetaking helped me to make a general overview of the
whole experience.

During the lesson, I observed that she could change her practice from time to
another just to achieve her aim; making students engaged in the teaching process.
As I was in scientific streamed classes, their English level was average. But one
can notice that they have the desire to learn it.

Despite all the circumstances that the school and the students face, I was satisfied
with the teacher. I enjoyed my attendance with her. I have learnt a lot. It was an
excellent experience for me as a trainee teacher.

To conclude, it is worth mentioning that before starting my first day as a trainee


teacher, I thought about this new practice several days and I talked to my classmates
a lot about it. But after that first training day, I knew this would help me to improve
my performance as a future teacher.
Training Sessions

Day one :

In the 14th of February in the raid Faradj high school with the third languages
stream the sequence was read and consider and the activity was pronunciation and
spelling under the unit of education , the class was small only about 12 to 14
students were there attending the teacher’s session as far as this class is foreign
languages class they take English subject in consideration they follow the teacher
and they really focus on everything , the students were very calm and educated
obviously from the way they dealing with the teacher and respecting her , as any
teacher dealing with her/his he would be really look after his students by asking
them about the previous lesson and check them if they really understand it or not
or they need some help to remember it well after a debate with the teacher and the
student that took about 10 to 12 minutes the teacher tried to engage the last
session with the activity of the current session the activity was about the final /S/
sound and the aim of the lesson is to make the students able to classify and
pronouncing the final /S/ according to its ends sound in the beginning the teacher
asked the student to open the book at the page 88 to do the first activity she gave
them 10 minutes to do the activity after the time was up the teacher used the
white board and the book as a material to help him present the lesson in the
proper way and to lead him help the student understand the lesson well so the
teacher ask for some volunteers students to do the first activity on the board this
took about 15 min to 17 minutes the first activity was somehow easy for the
majority of students . after this the teacher moved to the second activity by asking
and brainstorming the students about it which is the stress the students were
already knew about the rules of stress and how they underling it in a word so as
the first activity the teacher gave their students about 10 minutes again to do the
activity and then they passed to the board to correct it finally we can say that the
aim of the lesson achieved since the students were completely participating with
the teacher and having fun doing the activity after 50 min the teacher gave the
students a home work then a break before the bell ring .

Day two :
in the 14th of February in the Raid Fardaj high school this time with the second
year scientific stream in hand the class was so noisy and lousy in the other hand it
was so disorganised the teacher came and wrote in the white board the unit was
about budding scientists and the sequence was reading and writing after 10
minutes after 10 minutes of the chaos while the teacher is writing on the board the
teacher ordered them to keep silent and they barley kept silent then the teacher
ask them about the previous lesson to warm them and engage them to the coming
lesson after a huge discussion between the teacher and the student the teacher
confirm that the students are really have understood the last lesson he moved with
them to the next lesson which is to represent their works by groups the teacher
used the data show as a material to help her achieve the aim of lesson the groups
were already ready and excited to represent their works after a while when the
teacher was set the Data show he started calling the groups one by one the first
group were simply made their work at home as a show to display it in the class
and it was somehow funny with a good pronunciation the second group prepared
a lesson to present as teachers to student the lesson was about the conditional the
teacher was not sever with them about some written mistakes , the other groups as
a siectific stream they did an experiments to share with their friends they were
really so creative and their presentation was fantastic by showing other students
things they never seen before after 35 minutes the teacher finished the lecture and
allow them to get out the class in the end I can say that the aim the lesson
achieved to help learners to understand the purpose of skills presentation
Day three :
On the 18th of February in the Raid fradaj high school of Bechar with third year
languages stream first of all when the teacher came she asked them about the last
lesson as usual to make sure if they understand it or not after 10 minutes of
discussing the last session the student they were able to memories the lesson and
were able to understand it easily after that the teacher tried to engage to the
current lesson which is its unit was Education sequence read and consider and
activity think share pair the teacher was already gave them a home work to write
a letter so in the current session she asked them to stand up one by one to read
their letters which they describe their school to a foreign student who didn’t get
chance to visit each one’s school she asked the first student to stand up by giving
each one 5 minutes the class was not crowded that much small , calm and some of
their student are really smart and they really want to learn English the aim of the
lesson is that students will own the skill to write a letter and read it with a good
pronunciation in front of the class some students were able to describe the school
with a brilliant pronunciation and a good way of writing skills the class was not
noisy and the girls were interesting learn English than boys after they finished
reading their letters the teacher chose the best letter and she used the white board
to correct the letter with student to help some of who didn’t get yet how to write it
and she gave them some advices and skills to apply in order to write a proper
letter after 5 minutes of correction I can say that the aim of the lesson achieved
since the majority of the students were able to write a letter and read it in front of
their friends
Day four :

The same day on the 18th of February in the raid faradj school with the second
year scientific stream the unit budding and scientists the teacher this time used the
data show as a material so as that students represent their works unfortunately the
data show didn’t want to work at first and this is something was not expected by
the teacher 30 minutes left and the data show still not working after a while it
worked and everything back to normal and the teacher apologies for the mess and
she started to call the groups one by one to present their work by giving them 5
minutes for each group the aim of the lesson is that students represent their
presentations and experiments in their own the students were so creative and they
control the class with their performance unlike the other groups they were
presenting in the last session these groups was more scientific in their works they
really tried to engaged the student to participate and focus with them even the
teacher was wondered to what were able to achieve from their experiments after
the bill ring while the last group was presenting the teacher thanked the groups
about their awesome presentations and advised them to continue these good
works at the end I can say the aim of the lesson was achieved since every student
present his/her presentation and experiment their own .

Day five :
On the 19th February in the Raid faradj high school with the third year scientific
stream class , the unit was about scientific astronomy , the sequence was about
and the activity was think , pair , share , the class was so small about 21 students
comparing to the other classes , the teacher asked the students about the previous
lesson to warm up the students to the current lesson the teacher did something
unusual this time she took the students outside out of class to finish the lesson in
the field of school the weather was so sunny any way the teacher used the book as
a material to represent the lesson to the student the first activity was about the
conditional she asked the students to open the book on the page 149 to do the
activity the whole time passed on the activity and the half of time lost when the
teacher tried to move the student from the class to the field of school the aim of
lesson to make the students use the conditional type two was somehow hard to the
teacher to achieve it because the weather was so sunny , the sun was annoying the
students to following the lesson and do the activity after 50 minutes the bill rang
and they return the chair to the class .

Day six :
On the 19th February in the Raid Faradj with the third year Management and
Economy stream class the unit was business is business , the sequence read and
consider as every lesson the teacher trying always to link between the last lesson
and the current lesson to warm up the student and prepare them to the next lesson
the class was so noisy and lousy and not easy to the teacher to control the lesson
this time was about the plural and the singular form the skill was pronunciation
and spelling the teacher used the book as a material to represent the lesson she
asked them to open the book on the page 149 to do an activity about the plural
and the singular form yet before that she want to make sure the students if they
had any idea about the plural form and the regular form of some plural nouns
after a short time of discussion less than 12 minutes she she gave them 15 minutes
to do the activity the lesson was so easy to student to understand because they
were familiar from the middle school as well as the aim of the lesson was easy to
be achieved with the teacher after 15 minutes she corrected the activity orally
with them and the most of student were participated and active during the lesson
till the allowed time finished .
Lessons taught
Lesson one :
Everyone it this when he’s going to do something new he get some fears and
worries the same happened to me before I start teaching the classes that I suppose
to teach any way the first lesson was with second year scientific stream I was
worry to do mistakes I entered the class the students wondered at first minutes I
put my bag in the desktop they started to whisper and talk to each other than I
interrupt them by saying " Hello everyone ! I need your attention please ! "
they all turn to look at me in that moment i felt a great feeling and i was so proud
of my self of controlling the class alone without any help from my tutor I
introduced my self to them they welcomed me I chose to teach them oral
expression on purpose to know the level of English they got and how is their
pronunciation I loved they way they work each other when I divided them into
groups no one of students hesitated to ask question they all was inspired and
motivated to do the activity and write to stand and read what they already
prepared in their groups I felt that the aim of the activity has been achieved before
it has finished they after the time was up all the students was ready to stand up
and read the paragraph they wrote I started to speak and make a dialogue with
every student comes to the board to allow him/her to speak and feel confidence
after the session finished they started to thanking me for the session I felt that I
achieved my aim of lesson and my future as a teacher started to be obvious in my
eyes .
Lesson two :
This time with third year management and economy it was a small class yet noisy
they don’t care about English as my tutor said so I tried to be more close to them
by doing the same lesson plan I did to the second year scientific but this time I
gave them the right to write whatever they like and express their feelings about it
they all started to write and thinking I liked the way they was discussing with they
was sharing ideas in pair, looking for new words then asking for my help also I
felt that I was familiar with them I gave them 15 minutes to write the paragraph to
be ready to read it in front the class this class was somehow the funniest class I
had ever seen so I tried to change the atmosphere by changes the activity in the
last few minutes by make them talk to each other every two students face to face
and guess the right and the wrong about the other one the aim of this activity is to
make the student think out of the box about everything even if they have not the
words they would ask and get it the activity also was somehow funny they liked
and they all want to participated despite the fact that the time allowed has been
finished after I left the class by thanking them and I said that I enjoyed the lesson
with you and they thanked me back I was so pleased with my self that time and I
wished that I was their as official teacher .
