Service Procedures

Accelerator Pedal, Replacement
You must read and understand the precautions and guide-
lines in Service Information, group 20, "General Safety
Practices, Engine" before performing this procedure. If you
are not properly trained and certified in this procedure, ask
your supervisor for training before you perform the
procedure.

Removal

Secure the vehicle for service by parking it on a flat level sur-
face, applying the parking brake, chocking the rear wheels,
and placing the transmission in neutral or park.

Disconnect all battery cables from the negative (ground) bat-
tery terminals to prevent personal injury from electrical shock
and prevent damage to electrical components.

Roll floor mat back on right side.

Remove lower right panel nut.

Remove the upper fasteners from both lower right dash pan-
els and remove the panels.

Disconnect the throttle position sensor harness and cut plas-
tic cable tie from support bracket.

Remove fasteners and remove accelerator pedal assembly.

Installation
1
Install replacement accelerator pedal and tighten fasteners to
24 ± 4 Nm (18 ± 3 ft-lb).

For trucks in production after 09/23/2013, connect the throttle
position sensor harness and secure harness with cable tie as
shown.
Note: For trucks built before 09/23/2013, skip to steps 3 and
4.

Note: Trucks in production before 09/23/2013 will require a
jumper harness and conversion kit. Reference TPI 271–
012PB for part numbers.

Connect the jumper harness connector (1) to the throttle po-


sition sensor (2) and to the cab harness (3).

Secure harness with cable tie as shown.

Position right panel, and ensure Heating, Ventilation, & Air
Conditioning (HVAC) pipe is secured in panel.

Install the upper fasteners in the lower right dash panel and
center under dash panel.
Note: Do not torque trim panel fasteners. Hand tighten only.

Install lower right dash panel fasteners.
Note: Do not torque trim panel fasteners. Hand tighten only.

Install nut on lower right panel.
Note: Hand tighten nut, do not torque.

Reconnect all previously removed cable to the negative
(ground) battery terminals.

If applicable, begin installation of conversion kit.
Note: Trucks in production after 09/23/2013 with an I-shift
transmission will not require a conversion kit. Skip to step 16.

Note: Trucks in production before 09/23/2013 with an I-shift


transmission will require a conversion kit. See TPI 271–
012PB for conversion kit part number. See steps 12–15.

Reprogram the Vehicle Electronic Control Unit (VECU), (MID
144) to the latest software.

Reprogram the Engine Control Module (ECM), (MID 128) to
the latest software.

Clear all Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC’s).

Verify proper operation.

Remove wheel chocks.
