ANALYSIS OF 2016 ADMISSIONS INTO MBA

ADMISSION STATUS:

 Convenor quota: out of378 seats 324 are filled through counseling, Remaining 54 seats were filled
through spot admission.
 Management quota: Till date out of 162 seats 34 are filled. Management admissions are still in progress
as last date for MQ admissions is yet to be declared by APSCHE
Admission into MBA in general:

 Attendance among student community is generally low at PG level as attending classes becomes less
important in the perception of students

 The set of students regularly joining RIMS for the past few years are local students from East Godavari
district only.

 Major chunk of student population preferring RIMS are students who seek attendance exemption
employed in full time or part-time jobs working in Kakinada as well as other metropolitan cities like
Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru and students who take coaching for SI, PC jobs and Bank coaching in
Nandyala.

 Regular and genuine students pursuing MBA consisted of 3-4 sections out of 9 sections for each batch.
Major reasons for the downfall of admission are as follows.

 The primary reason for drop in 2016 admissions is Bio-metric attendance. Remaining all reasons are
supplements to this major one.

 RIMS has highest intake of 540 students in our state. 60 percent of students are locals from adjoining
villages while the remaining 40percent are from different parts of the district. However this academic year
students from other parts like tuni and amalapuram, who constitute a sizeable portion of RIMS
admissions every year, have shown reluctance to join in RIMS due to biometric attendance because of
distance and travel time. These students joined in nearby colleges in their local areas.

 This academic year staff of RIMS have worked jointly for RIMS and KIET admissions.

 Some group of students who are employed in Kakinada did not attend ICET counseling even after Staff
assurance that all they need to do is give biometric attendance every morning before going to their
respective offices. Students felt it uncomfortable and inconvenient to come to college every day for the
sake of bio metric attendance.

 In comparison with previous years, Pass percentage among degree students has been very low.
 Students who have cleared degree (B.com, B.sc, and B.Tech) have joined in placements and feared to join
in MBA because of BIOMETRIC.
 Some students joined in M. Com and other post graduate courses in focus of APPSC.
 Students in general prefer engineering campus because of multi-discipline courses , infrastructure and
integrated placement opportunities.

Current Scenario:
 This year regular class attendance has been all time low infact pathetic.
 Currently 1 section for first years and one section for final years are run in the college
 Final year class strength is approximately 40
 First year class strength is approximately 60
 On an average 80 to 120 students attend classes. This attendance of students is floating as students
become absent in regular intervals but the overall attendance of 80-140 is maintained regularly.
 Since the floating attendance among student community is high and as it is the scenario in general among
neighbouring colleges too it has become difficult for staff to organize workshops and seminars effectively.

Future Scenario:
 With biometric attendance becoming mandatory and as well as obligatory on the part of educational
Institutions, only regular students show interest to pursue MBA
 In this scenario RIMS will be able to fill 3 sections i.e 180 admissions in the coming academic year.

Implication needed to followed are

 Since RIMMBA is having single department so there is urge to Improve more departments(M.Com, B.Com,
BBM)
 Vast promotion is required.
