Chanel style tunisian crochet jacket

By Oana o.Bonacorsi

For a soft and light texture with the tunisian crochet, the yarn choose must be worked
with at least 1 measure more than the measure hook reported on the yarn label , but is
better 2 measures more . So I worked this jacket with DROPS big fabel yarn and with with
7 mm tunisian hook , on the label was suggested 5 mm hook . I used about 700 g of yarn.

The bottom up construction is not difficult at all if we know the measure that we need and
we let 1 or 2 cm more for the ease.

So first of all we need the circunference of the body between the hips and the waistline ,
that will be the perfect measuer for your jacket , because for the lenght it ‘s so easy , you
just work until you reach the under arm level , of course leaving 1- 2 cm for ease, without
increases or decreases.

The second measure but also importanti s from the mid houlder to the under arm level ,(
leaving the 1-2 cm for ease) this will serve to know how many rows of decreases and how
may rows with the same number of stitches we need to work for a perfect shape of the arm
opening . As a generel rule there must be half rows of decreases ( in each of second row 2
decreases) and the same number + 1 rows working the same number of stitches.

Back of the jacket

It’s the most important part because the decreases , the numbre of rows , ecc that we work
on this part , we will repeat for the 2 front parts and sleeves.

64 ch or how many ch you need for your measure , it must be a even number

R 1-3 work pearl stitch

R 4-40 work simple tunisian stitch for all rows , or for how many rows you need to get the
lenghts to under arm leaving of course 1-2 cm for ease

Decreases for arm opening and neck line

R 41 Bind off 4 stitches , work 56 sts and leave unwork the last 4 sts

On the turning step of the same row begin with 1 decrease so pull through 2 loops on the
hook , instead of 1 and finish with 1 dec so pull through 3 loops on the hook , instead of 2 ; we
worked 2 dec – 54 sts left

R 42 work the st sas they are- 54 sts

R 43 work as for the row 41 for the decreases- 52 sts left

R 44 work all the st sas they are – 52 sts

R 45 work as for the row 41 for the dec – 50 sts left

R 46 work the st sas they are – 50 sts

R 47 work as for the row 41 for dec – 48 sts left

R 48 work the st sas they are- 48 sts

R 49 work as for the row 41 for the dec – 46 sts left

R 50 work the st sas they are – 46 sts

We finished the dec for the arm opening on both sides of the back

R 51- 59 work the st sas they are for 9 rows – 46 sts

Right shoulder

R 60 work 13 sts and in the turning step begin with a dec , so pull through 2 loops – 12 sts left

R 61 beging with a dec the turning step – 11 sts left

R 62 the same – 10 sts left

Bind off with the slst on the 10 sts

R 60- 62 – left shoulder

Count and skip 20 sts and work on the last 13 sts like you worked on the first , only that you
will deca t the end of each row , ( to dec on the end pull through 3 loops )

Bind off 10 sts with the slst

Now we have 10 nad 10 sts for the shoulders and 20 for the neck line

Front side left

Work 32 ch ( or the half of the ch that you cast on for the back side )

R 1-3 work with the tunisian pearl st

R 4-40 work with the simple tunisian crochet all the sts until you reach the last 6 , work 5
with the pearl st and the last as simple tunisian inserting hook through 2 loops for a nice
border

The decreases for the arm opening

DO not forget to work the 4 pearl sts for the border + the last st

R 41 bind off 4 sts, work from the fifth stitch and on turning step work the last 3 loops
together ( pull through 3 loops instead of 2 ) for the dec- 27 sts left

R 42 work the st sas they are – 27 sts

R 43 work the dec as in the row 41 – 26 sts left

R 44 work all the st sas they are – 26 sts

R 45 work the deca s in the row 41 – 25 sts left

R 46 work the st sas they are – 25 sts

R 47 work the dec as in the row 41 – 24 sts left

R 48 work the st sas they are – 24 sts

R 49 work the deca s in the row 41 – 23 sts left

R 50 work the st sas they are – 23 sts

We finished the decs for the arm opening

Begin the dec for the neck line

R 51 work 13 sts , (leave unworked the last 10 sts) on the turning step beging with a dec , so
pull through 2 loops instead of only 1 loop ( yarn over and pull through 2 loops , usually the
turning step of a tunisian crochet row begins with yarn over pull through 1 loop ) – 12 sts left

R 52 work the st sas they are - 12 sts

R 53 work the dec as in the row 51 – 11 sts left

R 54 work the st sas they are – 11 sts

R 55 work the deca s in the row 51 – 10 sts left

Now we have exactly the same number of st sas for the back shoulder , we need to complet
the numbet of rows :
R 56- 62 work 6 more rows - 10 sts

Bind off on the 10 sts with slst

Front side right

32 ch

R 1-3 work with the tunisian pearl st

R 4-40 we already have the first st on the crochet hook , work the next 5 with the pearl st
and the rest ( 25sts ) with the simple tunisian st

Do not forget about the 5 pearl st for the border in each row

R 41 work as for the rows 4- 40 but leave unworked the last 4 sts , so we have 28 sts left
now; on the turning step of the same row work the first 2 loops together for the dec and
then continue with yarn over pull through 2 loops until the end of the row – 27 sts left

R 42 work the sts as they are – 27 sts

R 43 work the dec as in the row 41 – 26 sts left

R 44 work the sts as they are – 26 sts

R 45 work the dec as in the row 41 – 25 sts left

R 46 work the sts as they are – 25 sts

R 47 work the dec as in the row 41 – 24 sts left

R 48 work the st sas they are - - 24 sts

R 49 work the dec as in the row 41 – 23 sts left

R 50 work the sts as they are – 23 sts

We finished the dec for the arm opening

Work a sicure ch and cut the yarn

R 51 count the first 10 sts , join yarn into the next st, work the 13 sts and in the turning step
of the same row , work the last 3 loops together for the dec ( so yarn over an dpull through
3 loops ) – 12 sts left

R 52 work the sts as they are – 12 sts

R 53 work the dec as in row 51 – 11 sts left

R 54 work the sts as they are – 11 sts left

R 55 work the dec as in row 51 - 10 sts left

R 56 – 62 work the 10 sts for 6 rows more

Bind off

Sleeves ( make 2 )

For the sleeves if you want them larger or smaller begin with the number of one part of the
front side adding 4 – 6 ch more , so in my case 32 + 4 = 36 ch , then we need the lenght , so
measure your arm leaving again 1-2 cm under arm for ease. On this measure you have to put 5
rows of 2 inc each and they must be divided like this : each of your 8th row , or 7 row ecc ,
mostly with the same frequency ( 10 inc total)

Ch 36

R 1 – 3 work in tunisian pearl st

R 4- 8 work for the rest of the sleev in tunisian simple st , work 36 sts

R 9 work first 2 sts , in the ch between the second and third vertical bares, insert hook and
pull up a loop – inc made , work the rest of the sts until you reach the second to last st so
work in the same manner another inc – 38 sts

R 10 – 17 work for 8 rows the st sas they are – 38 sts

R 18 work the 2 inc as in row 9 – 40 sts

R 19 – 26 work the sts as they are – 40 sts

R 27 work 2 inc as in row 9 – 42 sts

R 28 – 35 work the sts as they are – 42 sts

R 36 work 2 inc as in row 9 – 44 sts

R 37- 44 work the sts as they are – 44 sts

R 45 work 2 inc as in row 9 – 46 sts

R 46 – 51 work the sts as they are – 46 sts

R 52 bin off 4 sts and work 38 sts , leave unworked the last 4 sts , on the turning step of
the same row , begin and finish with a dec ( see the back side dec part ; ro w41)- 36 sts left

R 53 work the sts as they are – 36 sts

R 54 work 2 dec , as for the row 52 – 34 sts left

R 55 work the sts as they are – 34 sts

R 56 work 2 dec , as for the row 52 – 32 sts left

R 57 work teh sts as they are – 32 sts

R 58 work 2 dec , as for the row 52 – 30 sts left

R 59 work the sts as they are – 30 sts

R 60 work 2 dec , as for the row 52 – 28 sts left

R 61 work the sts as they are – 28 sts

We finished with the decreasing part

Now we have to shape the sleeve to perfect fit to the arm opening of the jacket

After the dec part on back and two parts of front , we work in each 11 rows more , now we
will consider these rows as sts , exactly the border st of each of these rows will be a st to
sew in the sleeve , that’s why we must have the same number of sts on the sleeve and on the
back + front arm opening . So now we have 28 sts on the sleeve and 11 + 11 = 22 sts on the
arm opening back + front , so there is a diference of 6 sts .

So we will work 4 more rows with 2 dec at the begin and 2 dec at the end of each . Still each
row adds 2 sts ( the border sts ) so ,we actually dec only 2 sts on each row.

R 62 work the st sas tehy are and in the turning step of the same row work at the begining of
the row 2 loops together and then 3 loops together , 2 dec made , continue with pull through
2 until 5 loops left on the hook , now work 3 loops together for 2 times , last 2 dec made- 24
sts + 2 ( the border sts of the row itself) = 26

R 63 work the same as row 62 – 20 + 4 ( the border sts of rows 62 and 63 ) = 24 sts

R 64 work the same as row 62 – 16 + 6 ( the border sts of row 62- 64 ) = 22 sts

So finally we have the same number of sts with the number of rows of the arm opening ( back
+ front )

Neck border

Join yarn on the left front side and pull up loops in each st all arround , back and right front
side , so work the loops for the first row and then work 3 more rows , bin off and cut the
yarn, weave in the end .

Picot border

Work with a normal crochet hook same size , join yarn on the half back side and work 1 sc
with picot ( ch 3 join with slst into the sc inserting hook through 2 loops of the sc ) and 2 sc ,
in the corners work 1 sc , 1 sc with picot and 1 sc , all into the same st , all around until you
reach the st where you began , slst and cut yarn , weave in the end.
