THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

Dorothy Johnson’s Behavioral System Model

The Behavioral System Model is a model of nursing care that advocates the

fostering of efficient and effective behavioral functioning of the patient. This theory

would aid in understanding the behavior of the patient and the relationship of his

environment to his condition. Behavioral System Model could be best applied in the

evaluation phase of the patient. (Nursing Health, 2016)

A respondent’s behavior is directly influenced by the environment and the events

that occur around him or her such as his disease condition, whether they are influenced or

because of negligence.Reckless forms of behavior take the possible outcome of the

actions that is committed such as the possible root of the disease. It can be interfered

what drive has been stimulated or what goal is being sought. (Nursing Psychology, 2018)

In line with this theory, the patient’s mental condition was influenced by a

physical injury. After the injury, the patient then demonstrated bizarre and weird behavior

as indicated by the patient’s significant others.

Hildegard E. Peplau’s Interpersonal Relations Theory.

The need for a partnership between nurse and client is very substantial in nursing

practice. This definitely helps nurses and healthcare providers develop more therapeutic

interventions in the clinical setting. Through these, there was a development made by

Hildegard E. Peplau’s Interpersonal Relations Theory. Communication and interviewing

skills remain fundamental nursing tools. Nurses must clearly understand themselves to

promote their client’s growth and to avoid limiting client’s choices to those that nurses

value. (Abadon, 2018)

A professional and planned relationship between client and nurse that focuses on

the client’s needs, feelings, problems, and ideas. It involves interaction between two or

more individuals with a common goal. The attainment of this goal, or any goal, is

achieved through a series of steps following a sequential pattern. (Astra, 2017)

This theory is very important to provide proper nursing care and intervention for

the patient’s condition. Rapport has been provided but in order for the student nurses to

provide effective and competent nursing care, the main problem should be identified as

well as the prioritized needs of the patient and to set an attainable goal.

During the home visit and interview, some information were not supplied clearly

by the patient because he had flight of ideas. This theory will help in identifying ways to

properly communicate with the patient to provide nursing care and interventions.
