As the weather has been very hot we

have been looking for a way to cool

down. We began to explore ice.
Victor noticed that the ice straight
from the freezer stuck to the metal
bowls and trays. We also noticed that
the ice was slippery on the table once
it had melted a little, at
first it was sticky and
now its slippery.
We discovered that the
ice had made the metal
cold to. All got to hold &
touch the ice. We saw if
we held it tight in our
hands that the ice would
melt and drip the water .
Together we all talked
about what was happening
to the ice. This reminded teacher Rosy of
the water cycle so we looked at the poster, it showed that that water evaporates and
makes it rain.

Viktor, you were the first to observe that the ice was sticking to the metal, you were
watching carefully to see that, you shared your observation and allowed us then as a
group o explore what was happening. I love that you noticed straight away what was hap-
pening and ice sticking is not the obvious conclusion to make! Most of the children said
the ice was melting, Viktor you added another working theory to our exploration.
We will continue to explore scientific thinking and working theories through exploration,
this was a good
Way to follow up on the science experiments that teacher Maysoon had done with last
week. Through exploring in this way children develop hypothesis, working
theories which they then explore and test out to form their own conclu-
sions. Its so important to explore in this way with others as then there
is opportunity to share ideas and contribute to others learning to.
