 We have added pre-class and post class material to increase
the efficiency of the actual class.

 Level 2 and CCSS alignment

Level 1 is a foundation level. Our aim for this level is to help kids gain English-
learning skills. Meanwhile, we will achieve some CCSS:

ELA Standards »Reading: Literature »Kindergarten:10%

ELA Standards »Reading: Informational Text »Kindergarten:10%

Level 2 meets 40% Grade K
Level 2 Entry Point

Level 2

U1 Entry Point 1

U4 Entry Point 2

U7 Entry Point 3

U10 Entry Point 4

Level 2 Entry Point Descriptor
Level 2: The reading goals in Level 1 start with capital and lower-case letter recognition,
moving on to individual phonics sounds, vowel word families, and blending sounds to
read CVC words. Level 1 speaking goals begin with the repetition of single words and
very basic introductory dialogue, move on to the repetition of complete but simple
sentences, answering in sentence fragments, and answering in complete sentences. If
the student cannot read, but is a confident speaker, they still belong in Level 1. The aim
of Level 1 is to teach students reading basics.
Level 2 Unit 1 Reading: Zero English ability. Student knows no alphabets and
phonics and cannot read. Speaking: Student does not repeat
after the teacher, cannot use basic dialogue to introduce
themselves or state their age, etc. Goal is to learn basic
commands, classroom language, and introductory dialogue.
Level 2 Unit 4 Reading: Some reading skills but lack of confidence in phonics
and CVC blending. Speaking: Can use basic sentence patterns
as an introduction but lacks ability to extend conversation past
this point. Knows basic classroom commands. Can repeat after
the teacher.
Level 2 Unit 7 Reading: Knows phonics sounds of each letter of the alphabet
and can blend CVC words. Reads with some difficulty and
needs more review/practice to be a confident reader.
Speaking: Answers in one word or fragment, repeats in complete
sentences.
Level 1 Entry Point Descriptor
Level 2 Unit 10 Replaces nouns with pronouns and exhibits correct
pronoun/verb agreement. Is able to read words with inter
changing vowels easily (Sam, sem, sum). Speaks in complete but
basic sentences.
Level 2 Pre-class Videos
 More videos for each unit; each unit has 4 videos.

Video 1 aligns with lessons 1-2

Video 2 aligns with lessons 3-6

Video 3 aligns with lessons 7-8

Video 4 aligns with lessons 9-12

L2-U4-LC1-1
 The average length of each video

is about 7 minutes.

 More interesting than before.

In most videos, one video is one story.

L2-U10-LC2-1
Level 2 Computer Homework
 Each unit has 2 learning cycles with 6 lessons each (12 lessons
in total). The final lesson of each learning cycle is an
assessment class.
 The purpose of the first 5 HW lessons of the learning cycle is
review and practice. The 6th HW will be an assessment. It
follows the teacher-led assessment in lesson 6.

Computer Homework Lesson 6 /12 Assessment

1. Guided practice & review, not 1. Assess student learning in areas of

assessment Reading & Writing, Social Studies &
Science, Math
2. Extend learning time 2. Supplement unit assessment
Computer Homework Activity Types

 There are 2 types of activities in the homework:

1. Interactive Review – the student is given many opportunities to

interact with the content, and they will have a chance to
correct their mistakes. The activity should guide the student to
review the material and show him/her the correct answer. These
templates will be more game-like
2. Practice – the student is only given one chance to answer the
question. They will receive feedback after they submit the
question, and they can’t re-try the question immediately. This
means we won’t see the correct/incorrect state until after
submission.

Level 1 Paper Textbook
 In level 2, there are 4 books which cover 12 units (24 Learning
Cycles). There are 3 units (6 Learning Cycles) in each book.
 In each Learning Cycle, we cover all teaching content like
chants, vocabulary, phonics, conversation, reading, math,
grammar, my project, project presentation, writing, and
project-based learning.

Some Tips for Teachers
 If your student is very young, you don’t need to ask them to do
too many circling activities. Although the TD asks you to, you
may still adjust your teaching method. The circling activities will
take much of your teaching time if your student isn’t able to
control the mouse very well. You can change the activity so
that you circle and the student speaks.

 You may have noticed that there is a lot of content in Level 1.

There are some sentences on the PPT slides. We have a specific
requirement for each teaching category of each entry point.
Such as, in Unit 1, we won’t teach letter sounds. We will also
teach HFW recognition in stories. Take a look at the following
slides. They will be helpful when you teach the classes.

 There are 25 PPT slides for each lesson, so the average time for
each slide is 1 minute.
 Phonics:
We teach letter recognition with phonics in unit 1. Word families +
onset/rime blending in units 2&3. CVC word sentences + HFW in Units 4-
9. Segmenting CVC words in Units 7-9. 4 letter words + HFW in units 10-
12.

Unit 1 Unit 7
 Reading comprehension:
We have theme readers in lessons 5 &11 and phonics readers in lessons 2
&8 each unit. You can use some Pre-reading comp techniques in Units 2-6,
as well as some reading comprehension (teacher read-aloud, phonics
readers w/ pictures) techniques in Units 7-12.

Unit 2 Unit 7
 High frequency words:
Units 1-3, teach for memorization & pronunciation only.
Units 4-6, recognition in story
Units 7-9, spelling as learning extension; speed trials
Units 10-12, spelling & dictation; speed trials

Unit 1 Unit 7
 Vocabulary words:
You can find them in readers/read aloud. Not all vocab words are
introduced in one lesson. There are no written definitions in Level 2. All
words have a picture that explains meaning.

Unit 1 Unit 7
 Sentence Patterns (SP):
Written SP on slide explicitly introducing SP along with Q/A prompt.
Students are not required to read the sentences in Units 1-3.

Unit 1 Unit 7
 Verbs:
Units 1-9, verbs introduced as vocab
Units 10-12, explicitly as grammar + vocab

Unit 7 Unit 10
 We teach grammar explicitly and implicitly in Level 2. There is no
need to explain too much about the rules if we teach the grammar
implicitly.

Implicitly teach “adjectives for

Explicitly teach “this” numbers & regular plural nouns”

Unit 2 Unit 10
 Math:
No slide is entirely skill-based. We teach for language, but not skill.
Students are required to solve some word problems.
