Part 3: Letter to Local Representative

The Honorable Bonnie Watson Coleman

U.S. House of Representatives

Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Representative Coleman:

The legislation, H.R. 3323 “Nutrition Education Act”, requiring 50 hours of Nutrition

Education to all students per school year is of paramount interest to me because I am a Nutrition

and Dietetics student at Marywood University and I am very passionate about educating the

youth. This issue directly impacts all students, my future profession, and the way these

professionals will be able to function effectively.

I am primarily concerned about preventing nutrition related disorders in students and

their future because optimal health and education in younger individuals will be able to make

their future better and the overall health of people in the future because they will be the one’s

leading us in that time. Other aspects of this same issue that affect the health of many people is in

order to prevent those from dying from something that could have been prevented or treated

from the beginning. Obese and diabetes in children is very prevalent in our day and time and this

type of bill can prevent more of this in our future. The national childhood obesity rate is 18.5%

and increasing.
Although I have read reports of your position in the newspapers, I realize this may not

fully represent your viewpoint. Therefore, I will look forward to your reply expressing your

opinions, and your current stance on the issue.

Thank you for your consideration of my viewpoint on this matter. I believe it is an

important issue, and would like to see the legislation pass to ensure effective educational services

for the students involved.

Sincerely,

Christina Savoth,
