Timing Sequenced Teaching and Learning Grouping Resources

Introduction/Warmer- Draw it
15 mins  Ss are put in groups of 5, given one whiteboard marker and one drawing pad each with the Groups of 5 11x drawing pads
draw cards in the middle of the group stack of draw cards
 Each student draws a draw card, looks at it and places it face down so no one else can see 11x whiteboard markers
 Each round goes for 1 minute
 Ss have one minute to draw the noun that is on the card. When the min is up, ss pass their pad
one person to their left.
 Looking only at the picture, the student needs to write one simple sentence about the drawing
in 1 min. When the min is up, pass the pad one person to the left. This
 Using only the simple sentence (they are not allowed to look at the previous picture), they have
one minute to draw their interpretation of the simple sentence. When the min is up, the pad is
passed one person to the left.
 Using only the last picture drawn, the student has one minute to write a compound sentence
about the picture that was drawn. When the min is up, pass pad one person to the left.
 This is the last round. Ss are to draw their interpretation of the compound sentence.
 Go around the group to compare the first picture with the last picture, the first statement with
the last sentence. Discuss how adding detail to the sentences creates a clearer picture for
readers.
 Can play 2 rounds if time permits.
Body
10 mins  Put the first reading “The football incident” up on the board. Read to the students and get Whole
them to follow along. Class The football Incident
 Tell ss there is something not quite right about the reading. Read to the ss a second time and Reading
see if they can circle the items in the text that are not quite right. Individual
 Hand out the passage and read through one last time. Give ss time to circle what they think is
incorrect.

10 mins  Now that students are aware of collocations, ask them to turn their reading over to the traffic Individual
light reading. Ask them to fix any of the ill-fitting collocations they can find. Traffic light reading

15 mins  Alert students to the fact they collocations are a concept they will become more comfortable School Laptops
with, with practice. The more they are exposed to them, the easier it will become.
 In order to get students used to collocations, ss are to relocate to a laptop, and participate in a
kahoot quiz on collocations.

Conclusion
3 mins  Think of one collocation you have come across today that you think you can use. Individual/
Tell a partner or friend what it means and nominate someone that you will tell this partner
collocation to outside of the classroom.

Assessment of student learning


 As said in the lesson plan, collocations are something that may not show progress in one class, it is something that comes with practice. Teacher
can look at the edited readings and will be able to gauge a class understanding by the kahoot scores. This knowledge is helpful when it comes to
editing student work as the teacher can identify that the ss can used a collocation, and the ss can understand how to use them.
