Abstract

This report is intended to describe the statistical methods necessary to

design and conduct radiation counting experiments and evaluate the data from

the experiments. The methods are described for the evaluation of the stability of

a counting system and the estimation of the precision of counting data by

application of probability distribution models. The methods for the determination

of the uncertainty of the results calculated from the number of counts, as well

as various statistical methods for the reduction of counting error are also

described.

Abstract (15-20 Lines)

This report is intended to describe the statistical methods necessary to design

and conduct radiation counting experiments and evaluate the data from the
experiments. The methods are described for the evaluation of the stability of a
counting system and the estimation of the precision of counting data by application
of probability distribution models. The methods for the determination of the
uncertainty of the results calculated from the number of counts, as well as various
statistical methods for the reduction of counting error are also described.

Subject Keywords
counting statistics, probability distribution, Poisson distribution,
(About 10 words)
counting error, error propagation, uncertainty, dead time, detection limit
